I'm 4 days out from my feet touching soil in the great country of America. I'm excited to sleep in my bed, and see my wife and dogs. However, the pressing question is; What do I eat? What just screams America? part of me is thinking about taking a pork tenderloin, butterflying it out, stuffing it with ground pork mixed with cashews, apricots, and leeks, and then wrapping it in thick cut bacon and smoking it. That's right. Pork stuffed pork, wrapped in pork (I'm in Egypt if that gives a clue).
That leads me to my question. What is the first thing you eat when you get back? What's the meal that makes you feel like you're home? |

I was in Europe for two weeks and 10 days into the trip I couldn't resist McDonalds and a double cheeseburger in the Rome airport. What's sad is there was amazing food available right next to McDs and I still couldn't resist.
I guess after ten straight days of eating amazing cured hams in Spain and Italy, I needed a bit of home. Funny thing is, I rarely ever eat McDs in the states. |

Steak New York strip or a T-bone Where I'm at in Egypt is right up the road from a slaughter house. This doesn't mean that I had good quality beef available, but there was beef available. I'm trying to think of that meal that makes you just know you're home. |

When I come back from research trips (usually 4-6 months), the first thing I get is pizza pizza here is a sad miserable experience. Soggy dough, no sauce, half inch of odd plasticy cheese, and they give you ketchup packets to spread on top. |
| I have always been a fan of fried pork chops with a side of garlic mashed potatoes (with crumbled bacon) and bacon sauteed green beans as a welcome home meal. Pork just tastes better after being in a muslim country. The added bonus after living on MRE's for a couple months is you will pass any intestinal parasites shortly after this meal. |
