So my father and I have been wanting to fix up our cabin upnorth for awhile. We just put a tin roof on and are now getting ready to paint the exterior. I go to menards and look for a gravity fed air gun, I plan on only spending about 30-40$ on whatever they have. Well I didn't find any gravity or siphon fed guns but did find a graco x7 airless sprayer. So instead of spending the $40, I spend $400. I go home, research my purchase and find out for the couple hundred dollars more the pro x19 is worth biting the bullet.. sooo I run back the next day and spend $700. I try to justify my purchase like "I'll need it to spray the basement" or "this would work nice on the deck" or "maybe a friend might need help painting one day"

Anybody else have this issue?

I'll post pics once I get up there and done with the job

Checked online and it told me $108 a day to rent, so rent for 3 days (fri, sat, sun) hmmm seems like a wise choice to spend $324 instead of just having one myself

I did this when I re-tiled my kitchen. I spent a couple hundred on a tile cutting machine. Tiling sucks so the kitchen looks good but the rest of the house is going to wait.

Bought on a whim, when the wife wanted he house painted
I bought a Graco X7 equivalent 5 years ago. I've put 15 gallons through it on 2 projects. Painted 2 houses.
It works just as good as when I bought it. 5 gallons of paint in 2.5hrs.
Have a spare tip around. I'm on my second.
The 2ft extension for the nozzle comes in handy when the ladder is too short.

Damn, I knew I would be fine with the x7 but I got sucked in for things I didn't even care/ know about until I had to research it. We also do construction (windows, roofing, decks, soffit, fascia etc.) as a side job and but never painted before. Maybe just start taking bids for this as well

That's exactly what i used it for. Then the wife decided the inside needed to be painted as well.
Outside we used Sherwin Williams A100 on aluminum siding. Inside was Walmart paint. I'll use Sherwin's next time.
A word of warning. If there is a loose piece of tape, the spray will find a way behind it.
Taping takes longer than painting.

Harbor Freight airless sprayer for $169 on sale is what you want.  They use Graco parts and work very well.  Just buy a longer hose and build a rolling stand for it so you can siphon from 5 gal buckets and you'll be good to go.  Just clean it well between uses and it'll be reliable.

I set out to buy a Graco, but after reading the reviews decided to give it a shot.  Glad I did!

ETA... I'm bad about justifying tool purchases, but I'm trying to be smarter about it.
