I finally decided to put a cb in my trailblazer this weekend.

I got a cobra 29 ltd classic on ebay for 50 bucks

I also ordered a 4' fire stik fs, a spring, a coax cable from firestik, and a mount for a jeep Hood I will repurpose for a back left corner mount just above the brake lights.

I'm hoping to do this one right.
I had one in the cavalier I used to drive, but the wire magnet mount antenna was awful.

I picked up a cobra hh33 handheld on ebay for $25 to use as a loaner to keep in there too.  I might get a magnet and a 2' fire stik for that later down the road.

Is there much CB activity in your 'neck of the woods'?
Or is for off road-trails with your friends?
If you go to the Outdoor forums, there is a great Ham Radio Forum.
The best one on the I-net, I must say.

I loved the 29's "back in the day". Remember to use the built in SWR meter and tune up the antenna after you get it all installed.

Do they discuss cb in the ham forum?

Speaking of, i'm learning about ham right now and studying for the technicians exam.

The radio is mostly for shits and giggles like my uv5r which is scanning police , ems, and fire bands right next to me on the river bank atm.

I just like to be nosey.

Also it likely beats the hell out of frs/gmrs for car to car communications.

This comes in handy during hunting season or even fishing when we have more than one vehicle.

My dad built a base station in our house in the early 1980's. Had a huge roof aerial, with a 40 channel Realistic. He would use it to talk with his buddy who lived about 10 miles away. I guess the telephone was too pedestrian.

My first base station was a G.E. 23 channel mobile strapped to a Pace power supply with an Archer (Radio Shack) fiberglass base antenna on a 30ft tower.

This was 1976. Damn I'm old.

I used to work on them (CB's) back in the 80's and 90's. Met lots of interesting people through CB radio one way or another.

Heck, I've got a 148GTL right here that's been converted to 10 meters.

Good clean fused power source from the battery

Good grounds on all your antenna/mounts make sure to scrape off paint to get to metal.

Use an swr meter to tune your antenna

Just got rid of some old moonrakers I had taken down just before Rita hit. I miss the good ole days where we would get up early in the morning and talk to people 40-60 miles Away or more. Now I got a base station galaxy 2970 I need to let go of too!

The mount needs to be grounded? Well wouldn't the bolts do that?

Starduster with an antenna switch for the Avanti PDLII beam antenna on a tower with a D104 microphone and a Palomar Skipper 300 linear. A Sears base station that was worked up with uppers and lowers put in it,I talked all over the world even on regular channels when the skip was right. Man some times I miss the 70's and 80's.
