I got a CETME years ago in a trade and just let it sit in my safe. Well, I took it to the range today and shot it for the first time. It ran really well and was fun to shoot. But it was also crimping the neck on the spent casings. I never saw that before. One of the gunsmith's said that it was a violent extraction, but if the gun was running fine then there was nothing to worry about.

Have you see this before? It seemed to be really crimping them after the gun heated up.

It's from ripping the case out of the chamber faster than the bullet leaves the barrel, and slinging it across the globe with nearly the same energy as the bullet as it leaves the barrel.

Had one.  Did that too.

That thing would fling brass 20 feet.

Good to know. Thanks!

This is a great gun! I wish I had taken it out sooner. I did the head space check with a piece of paper and it came out fine, and since it runs, I think this one doesn't have any issues.

Now I need to order more 7.62 ammo.

My CETME did that, and I reloaded the brass with no problems.

Ayup. Still need to finger out something that keeps the brass from hitting my right wrist when I shoot my PTR (lefty rifleman). Hot fukking brass smacking that sweet meat on your wrist is not good times.

I have an H&K 91, A Springfield Armory SAR-8, and a Century G3.
The brass shows evidence of the fluted chamber, but no other damage as your pics. indicate.

Should have bought an HK or PTR then he'd have chamber flute marks too.

I have a couple sizes of 'tapered cone pliers' for fixing brass like that.

Tapered Cone Pliers

They appear to have gone up in price.

Mine are not this brand and are actually pretty old.

They do not get as large as these either.

Better: Jewelry Fine Round Nose Micro Pliers

Well you laugh, but I'd increasingly consider "being able to have brass to worry about" a first world thing.
