It's some of the best and worst stuff I've had. Each barrel is different.

Agree.  I much prefer their small batch stuff.

The bottles I have had are all good. In that price range, I typically lean toward evan williams single barrel.

What markings were on the bottom of the label.  That is what you will seek.

Last bottle I had was some of the best bourbon I've ever had. Look forward to trying another.

Good stuff but I prefer Evan Williams 10 year.

Gonna have to try Evan Williams next time. I've never had a bad bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel.  Matter of fact, that's what I was drinking on Election night.  It was beautiful, man.

Their small batch is one of my favorite "every day bourbons". I didn't know there was a single barrel, I'll have to
try it.

I struggled through the bottle I had.  I found the barrel proof private selections much better and picked up multiples.  I find that I prefer the low rye mashbill over the high rye.  With the high rye, all I can taste is cumin and it's overpowering.

I'm finishing off a bottle as we speak, and I concur with this.

I had just drank a bottle of what I think is the best mid priced (Medley Brothers) so my expectations were high.

Yeah, the last bottle I had was truly awful, I mean it was just the worst bottle of bourbon I've ever had.  The bottle before that was clouds parting, angels singing, pappy who? Fuckin good bourbon...honey barrel I guess.

Strange that they can be that different

Huh, I bought my first bottle of this today, too...  I found it to be good/quality bourbon.  Its very "delicate" and mild in flavor for me.  It wasn't bad at all but, given the choice, I'd drink lots of other bourbons before this.  I prefer a lot more going on, flavor-wise, with my whiskeys.

4 Roses is interesting, they have several mash bills and several yeast strains, and all combiations produce a distinct whiskey.  Their yellow label is a great basic bourbon for the money, and Small Batch is excellent.  Single Barrel is a crapshoot, you might like it, you might not.

Every distiller in Kentucky makes bourbon to bourbon specifications, and while those specs are pretty strict, they all do it differently.  The difference in how Makers Mark goes about making bourbon vs 4 Roses or Woodford Reserve is fascinating.

Try Woodford, either bourbon or rye.

Good single malt scotch tasters can tell you what the shape of the pot still was when they drink the whisky, and Woodford distills in pot stills vs continuous stills.  And they age in limestone rickhouses vs wooden, which makes a huge difference in the finished product as well.

Four Roses is good again. I remember when it wasn't. The Japanese really saved that brand.

I've been through the Woodford tour about 3-4 times, ditto for most of the others.  According to a friend in the industry (he's building a distillery now but it isn't running yet), the Woodford pot stills were a huge mistake.  Apparently the genius who put those in ended up getting fired over it.  You can't do the volume, you have a solids scorching problem to solve, and they will eventually be worn out from the reaction with the copper.  They do run some distillate out of there but it gets mixed in with the column distillate from the BF Early Times distillery.

I'm not a big fan of WR because their shifty little song and dance would have the uninitiated believe that all the bourbon in the bottle comes from those 3 little pot stills.   If the bourbon were better, I could probably rationalize my way past that, but it just tastes like lower proofed Old Forester Bonded to me.   I will say the visitor's center is beautiful, but the whole concern just has an affected, snooty wine-snob attitude without the bourbon to back it up.  Contrast that with the Shapiras over at Heaven Hill who are considerably more down-to-earth and make a helluva lot better product IMO. The Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style is probably my hands-down favorite from B-F.   I don't really dig most of their other bourbons and ryes.

As far as Four Roses is concerned, I tend to prefer the OEXX variants over the OBXX.   The Small Batch gets all 10 variants mixed together, which doesn't really suit my taste.

The 1920 Prohibition Style is twice the price of the Woodford.

Like someone earlier said, Evan williams single barrel is really good for the price.  if mone is good then Hibiki is tops.
