Today was, unfortunately, a day of household chores. What a great day for a recipe that takes some time.
I asked for some suggestions from GD on a pot roast last week and enjoyed it. Today, I thought I'd just go to the store and wing it. Chuck roast was on sale, but looking good. Let's start with chuck roast, salt and pepper it, and let it rest for a few hours. Attached File Once that's sat out for a while, and we've salted/peppered both sides, I'm going to get a cast iron skillet real hot. Then we're going to sear both sides. Attached File Sometimes, during the cooking process, you may find members of your household become interested and want to help. This is perfectly normal. Attached File Lets get the vegetables chopped up and ready to go. I'm going to pop open a Two Hearted at this point. Attached File I'm gong to do the onions, jalapenos and garlic first, while I'm warming up the cast iron pot. I melted a few tablespoons of butter at the bottom, which I'll soften the garlic, jalapenos and onions prior to putting in the oven. Attached File Once those are done, I'll put the beef on top of the mixture, along with mushrooms, carrots and potatoes. Then into the oven at 195° for about 4.5 hours. (Since the jalapenos in the dish may cause discomfort for your helper, I'll cook a chicken breast for the GSD at this time.) Now it's time to do household chores... Finish your chores as quick as possible, so you can go shooting. Open your safe and decide what to shoot. Pot roast and working on your home has you in an all-American mood, so tell some of your Glocks they are not welcome on today's range trip. Attached File Realize that your NFA items will be wasted on an indoor range trip, then make your decision. Come back and pull your pot roast out of the oven. Attached File Pair with 4.7m correct HR Garand with excellent gauging and a 1911. A meeting of the Johns, if you will. In before people equate my early 2000s purchase with Springfield's recent actions. In before people say I should sell a gun the company already got their money for. In before people assume I'm going to break out a linen napkin for fucking pot roast. Attached File Attached File |

Excellent OP, 10/10. Pot roast is much better out of the oven than sitting in a crockpot. I eat it both ways but prefer the oven. You'd think a day long crockpot would be better in both cases, but it's not. Chili is better in a pot, pot roast is better in the oven. For as much as I enjoy the crockpot, most traditional recipes are better in their original vessels. |

I'm just not feeling it.
So you get a ZERO. Admittedly, it may not be your fault. I got a bit of a stomach ache. I was working in the yard today with my gardeners....and they bought me lunch. Now I got a bit of an upset stomach. I don't know what the hell it was.....but I ate it anyway. That leaves you with a frickin' ZERO. Sorry. |

Nice, 10 if the meat was tender. Put the remaining pieces back in the pot, off the heat, for about an hour while I ate and cleaned up. I'm sure these will be delicious leftovers. Going to get fresh bread tomorrow, think it'd make a damn fine sandwich. |

You fucker. I'm trying to find something wrong with your pics, and it just isn't there.
Your white balance is off in the raw meat pic. I have the same look on my face that your GSD does. Your wife's elbows are probably pointy, but she has sexy fingers. Correct orientation for a quick reload. Paper napkin unnecessary, Walmart t shirt would do. You are trying too hard. Fuck it. 9.9/10 just cuz. Well done! |
