I've been interested in Falconry every since I was a kid and read by side of the mountain. Unfortunately I don't have the time or resources to keep the birds I'd like to have

I have gone to Falconry events and had some friends who took me out with their birds and I loved it.  Anyone here into Falconry? Post up pics and your stories.

If you have never been to a Falconry event I encourage you to find one locally to you and go. You won't regret it.

This is my friend Amy with her RedTail. Pictures were taken by her husband.

This damn possum... I had to finish it off for the bird.

Damn bird had us well trained  we'd spend hours walking around the Orange grove kicking grass to scare it up some rabbits.
One for the blooper reel

I was at an event years ago and was incredibly impressed.

This guy made a kickass thread a while ago.

Such pretty and bad ass animals. Maybe a distant cousin of the T-Rex.

I posted a few times in that thread.

My brother is a falconer and I've been on trapping missions and hunts with him.  It's a cool hobby, but My God, it takes a lot of time and patience.

He's had:

1) Trapped Red Tails - several
2) Cooper's Hawk - can't remember how he got that one
3) Merlin - somebody brought it into his vet clinic
4) Harris's Hawk - trapped - cool birds, we used to hunt rabbits at night by the truck lights
5) Peregrines - he's a "long winger" now, with a captively bred hybrid tiercel and a South Padre trapped female in his mews.

I do find myself spotting raptors because of all that I've been around with him.

There was a falconry club at the Air Force academy. The birds would perform at halftime of the football games, and all the cadets would cheer for the birds to fly away. One time one of them actually did. Loudest cheer ever heard in that football stadium.

Time and space are keeping me from getting into it. The bird I'd absolutely love to have is a Peregrine but I couldn't afford one.

Falconry has been one of my mild obsessions since the eighth grade. Could never get into then since the law in Ohio was that the minimum age for an apprenticeship was 18. Thankfully the local falconers put up with me until I went to basic two weeks out of high school...

Put it out of my mind until about two years ago when my oldest daughter found my old books and gear started asking questions. She ended up lighting up the fire again that I kept suppressed for so long due to time  and money constraints.

I just retired from my guard unit and work is more than cool with me bringing a bird to work. I will hopefully be trapping my first bird later this year.

Could be worse. I could have a crack addiction instead...

The feeling of a falcon on your arm is better than the feeling of a gun on your hip.  It's incredible.  This is the one discipline I wish i could have gotten into but knew I just didn't have the TIME for it.  Like Schutzhund, Falconry is a devotion...not a hobby.

It's pretty awesome having a large Raptor sitting on your hand.   It just takes so much time and effort to do it... Someday I will get into it but it will be a while before I have that kind of time to spend on the birds.
