What is the opinion on STEN builds?

SAS

I started a build about 5 years ago. It is about 3/4 finished. Sits in the back of the safe.

Lots of hand fitting.

I don't know if they are the best, but their kits look interesting:

I can't believe how much those parts kits have gone up.

Buy the real deal.

They're one of the best deals in machine guns right now, and aren't THAT horribly priced if you can swing it. $700 for a semi or $7000 for a full auto.

But, if you can't swing it, I still say go for it! Cool gun, handles great, looks awesome.

Some of the prices that people were asking for parts kits at the SAR show in Phoenix last December were beyond silly.

If I had a time machine....

The Sterling is a bit more refined. I am considering building a pistol Sterling.

ETA:

Like this but in 9x19 and with the plastic grips.

CA.

Semi STEN MK II and III don't look like they trigger the AWB. I'd have to find or make 10 round mags.

That reminds me, I really need to have my wiselite sterling sent to someone to have the barrel cut down and threaded now that I have my stamp.

Before 1986, I'm sure I would have done one.

As it is now, I have a parts kit and just can't bring myself to give enough of a shit to build it into a neutered semi.

This.

Making it function as a semi-auto is reverse engineering. Lots of hand fitting. Barrel reaming. Bolt face shaving. The Mk3 is the easiest.

edit: I bought some 9mm barrel blanks from Numrich and turned them down. I also made some trunnion washers from scratch as the ones that came from SAS with the kit were too shallow.

I made a sight rail (MkIII) and brazed it onto the receiver tube.  No warping. The real Lines Brothers' STEN MK IIIs were made from stamped sheet metal.

The sight rail was the welded seam.

I gave up on the build due to feeding issues and too much hand fitting.

Thank you, OP.

I just might get this ugly pos to work.
