Luckily, I've never had to file a dispute or charge back with a credit card.

That changed yesterday. I called yesterday morning to book a hotel. I confirm during the phone call 3 different times that the room was in the city I was traveling to.  Long story short, booking agent books the room in a city 4,000 miles away. A 2hr conversation with customer service yesterday afternoon gets no where. No rooms available and I am charged a cancellation fee.

I called visa and all charges were still "pending". They were helpful but said the charges have to go through before taking action.

Again, I've never had any problems like this before.

Am I on the right track?

Yep, you just have to wait to see if it actually posts, then pursue it with them. They can't do anything as long as it's just pending because it might not actually go through.

YMMV, of course...

I charge about $30k-$35k per year on my company cc, it gets paid in full at each statement.

I have NEVER lost a disputed charge, and I've had a couple that were like yours.

Call your cc company, speak to a person, and tell them you want to start a dispute. Explain the situation in detail.

And the reps can see your transactions MINUTE BY MINUTE, so please ignore my mistaken brother's post directly above about waiting for a statement. Call them as soon as you can.

It seems to work for me.
