I listed a Harley for sale on the internet. I have a guy who has texted me three or four times about it. The phone number is a NY number (I'm in Pa). You can tell by the wording his English is lacking a bit. He had asked about the condition of the bike and the price in the original text. Both were listed on the ad.
This morning I got a text that he wants to buy the bike. He cannot make it to inspect it and he will make shipping arrangements. The best method of payment for him is PayPal. He would like to know if I have an account. People don't just make $8500 purchases with out at least looking at the product
I know this is not legit but where is the scam in this deal? |

A friend of mine ran into this while selling a bike.
The buyer sent him a check for a portion of the cost and he deposited it. The buyer then refused to pay the remainder and vigorously demanded his money be refunded right now. The idea was to get the seller to send him money back before the check the buyer sent had a chance to bounce, which it ultimately did. |

I know this is not legit but where is the scam in this deal? There is a way people can use PP to approve the payment, but yank $$ from account before actual payment is processed. Or something to that effect, kind of like floating a check. In end, scammer gets item and doesn't pay. Not sure how PP handles that though, pretty sure seller is protected. Edit - forgot to say the most basic thing too - Cash ONLY!!! Don't even bother, buyer sounds like a stroker. |

I sold my Corvette years ago to some guy on the internet. Never met and never seen the car or title in person when he sent a certified check from a major bank... I cashed it with them and waited 3 business days at my request before sending out the papers. His shipper then picked up the car.
I would do it again. The deposit was on PayPal, I wouldn't do the entire amount. Edit: It was sold on a large forum... Similar purchases was common among members. Sorta like our EE. |

Best Way. And have at least 1 other person with you at the time of the transaction and BE ARMED. Quoted:

I knew a guy always had shit luck. This was the 90's. He was hurting for cash so had to sell his beloved Harley.
He puts an ad for his Harley in a paper. A guy replys to his ad pulls up his driveway with a expensive make of auto and asks if he could test drive the bike. He agrees on the test ride. About 20 min go by and he starts to get nervous did the guy crash? Waits some more.... He calls the cops and finds out the guy left a stolen car in his driveway and he is out a bike. |
