Several years back I started a bunch of grip scales for 1911's. Well they got put to the side.  About a month ago I got a GSG 1911 in .22 LR. Well I changed out the Main Spring Housing with a flat one over the arched. Next I'm wanting to finish a set of these scales for this pistol.  I'm going to post pic and will come back with edit from computer over phone typing. Attached File

Zebra Wood
Curly Maple with stain the the curl will pop

I like the zebra wood too. I think the best way to decide would be to take one of the originals off the gun and lay the wood ones on top of it one at a time and take a pic. Then you see how they'll really look.

Osage orange or the ambrosia maple. With an oil finish the Osage Orange is going to pop into amazing colors.

ETA without? any oil treatment, I'd second the zebra wood.

All will be finished with a light colored oil urethane finish. The curly maple and the mystery would would be given a light stain then sanded and finished with the oil urethane finish to really pop the curl.

I'll probably end up finishing them all out, once I start.  I've probably got about 30 sets or more of assorted blank scales I started and have never gotten back too.  I'm thinking about putting the cocabola on a stainless Springfield Champion.  I love curly maple and curly looking wood in general so I've been leaning towards the curly Maple or the mystery wood.  I also really like the ambrosia maple.  I'm kind of thinking the light colored wood on the black frame might really pop. But I might certainly have to test several to see

Maybe this is a really stupid idea, and too much work, but could you cut shapes out of some of the ones that flow well together and kind of puzzle them together?

Could look really cool or really garbage

Something like this: but with curves or swirls connecting the different woods, if you catch my drift.

Thanks.  I'll have to look into it. It was a small block I was given by a guy from his fathers wood collection after he passed. When he was cleaning out his fathers shop he kept everything he wanted and offered me anything else I wanted and could hall.  I have had no guessing points until this so thanks.
