I've been shooting 22s at my MIL house. Her property backs up to a friends farm.
Its down hill and goes to a creek, then back up hill with woods. Her property ends at the creek. About 50ft of woods before the creek. I have 50 yards to shoot before the tree line though. Wondering if I could build a 4x4 frame and put a thick rubber mat an angle off the back for a bullet stop. |

Use dirt and go bigger and wider than you think you will need. mine is a backstop of pressure treated lumber, 5 feet wide, 6 feet tall. In front of that I built a box 18 inches deep, approximately (I forget the real dimensions) 4 feet high, and 4 feet wide out of pressure treated plywood. the front of it is covered by a rubber horse stall mat. I filled the interior with sand. The horse stall mat is more or less self sealing. The sand box has withstood close to a thousand rounds of 22 lr and some 9 mm so far and it's holding up fairly well. Ill probably need to throw more sand in there though and maybe throw another piece of horse stall mat on there. The box was just more or less an experiment. I had the wood laying around, some sand, and some time so threw it together one afternoon last summer. This summer I've got plans to build a taller backstop, with sides to contain dirt or sand. |

If you shoot low the bullets will skip over the berm. Shoot a rock or steel and the bullets will shatter and you will heave lead flying in every direction. Build big if you want it safe for the neighbors. |
