I divested myself from 22lr when it was 10cpr if you could even find it... like fully divested.
I also have airguns, so I figured they'd pick up the slack. But now I want that 5cpr plinky again. What should I get? IBTP

CZ 455 training rifle or find a 452 training rifle pistol: Ruger Mark II, III, or IV. I don't have any experience with the IV but the II and III are good to go. The only thing I did with my Mark IIIs was put a trigger bushing in it to deactivate the magazine safety also a Ruger 10/22 is mandatory...but the stock trigger in them is terrible the Savage Mark II and Ruger American Rimfire are both good to go as well---my first .22 was a Mark II and I currently own two American Rimfires in .22 and in .17HMR, both shoot amazing. If you plan on going with a Savage Mark II make sure it has the accu-trigger, my old Mark II doesn't have it and its trigger is pretty bleh |

My sins! I know the cz 455 etc are nice but the less I can spend, the Moar better. Also considering Savage FV and RAR for bolt actions. And the Henry lever guns are fun but not much experience there. the RAR takes 10/22 magazines |

Sort of the same here I would buy a boxnhere and there purely so my son had something to shoot on the odd occurrence but otherwise avoided it as well.
Now that prices are reasonable again and I can find it again. I picked up a Ruger 22/45 Lite MKIV.. shot it every day sense. Fun little pistol. |

What about getting a cmmg conversion kit?
Or the target master conversion kit? It's pretty cheap, like 130 with 2 black dog mags. Is the target master worse quality than the stainless cmmg bravo? The barrel doesn't have a collar like a bunch of the 22lr barrels I've seen. Or does it not need one because that's not a conversion kit bolt? Would it be better to get a conversion kit bolt and a barrel with a collar, because then I could run the conversion kit in any of my ar's? On one hand it would be cool to shoot an AR with a Geissele trigger and acog etc for 5cpr, but on the other it would be cool to have a whole new style of gun. |

My Savage FVSR is the best bolt gun I have ever shot. Guys at the range that have Anschutz thoroughly enjoy shooting mine and always ask if it's for sale.
ETA: Skip the 10/22 unless it's a fun gun you'll keep stock. It's just like a Glock, you'll throw loads of money at it, but it's still just a 10/22. Ruger American

22/45 with a FF3 and a dead air mask

The RAR gave me my avatar and keeps 1 MOA with CCI SV. Pretty impressive for a rifle at that price, I don't see anything under $500 touching that without some heavy modifications. I would build a 22lr AR if I were just getting started.
My Marlin 60 is accurate as hell and fun to shoot, but isn't practical for a silencer. My 10/22 is a jam-o-matic piece of shit, and is actually my second one after I got rid of the first one for also being a jam-o-matic piece of shit. |

I think one 10/22 should be in every American household.
But everyone complains about the reliability of 10/22's nowadays. I bought mine in 1988 and it has never jammed or stovepiped or failed to feed. Not once. My favorite rimfire rifle is the Savage Mark II FVT, which comes with a lousy plastic stock that has a too-low comb and a flexy forearm. But stocks are easy to swap. This thing is insanely accurate. 
Most fun-gun I've had in a long while has been my Henry AR-7. It's just pure fun, nothing more. My Numero Uno favorite gun of ALL the guns I own is... a Ruger Single-Six .22/.22 Magnum.

CZ's are awesome right out of the box. The 10/22's I've handled recently were all of roughly-made quality, with awful triggers. CZ is more expensive but blows the Ruger away if you're keeping it stock.
For pistols, there are tons of great choices. Just hit up the Volquartsen site, Tandemkross, etc... for awesome aftermarket. The S&W victory series seems to be getting some cool aftermarket. |

I've got a Ruger 10/22 with Volquartsen trigger parts, Magpul stock, and Mueller APV scope. Nice plinker. Also got full Kidd 10/22 with a Victor Titan stock and a Mueller 8-32 scope. Good target gun. And a MkIII Target with Volquartsen trigger parts, Williams f/o sights, and G-10 Hogue grips. Nice pistol.

So should I get a conversion kit to shoot out of current uppers and then maybe a barrel down the road to build a dedicated upper, or a bolt action like the mkII?
One would have the advantage of not requiring dealing with ffl, providing training on my "real" guns, and I'll be shooting 22lr with geissele triggers and acogs n stuff. But the bolt gun oughta be more accurate. |
