decent .22 - AR15.COM

Howdy,I've got my beloved M4gery,and I was thinking about a nice,inexpensive .22 caliber rifle to supplement it.You know,something that is simple.Not only that,but .22 ammo is super cheap.I have no experience with .22 rifles,however I had the WAY COOL pleasure of firing a supressed .22 caliber pistol,the same type the special forces guys use occasionally.
Anybody got any imput on a great,inexpensive,good all around .22?
It's a .22 or a shotgun.For some reason I'm leaning towards the .22 instead of the shotgun,because the .22 could be sorta like a "kid brother" to the M4gery,with less accuracy,ammo cost,maintenence,and whatever.M4gery still my fav:) always

You've GOT to have a .22, somewhere in your arsenal. Best choice is the Ruger 10/22. 10 round, semi auto, fun, rather l/w, fun, infinitely customizable, fun, fun, fun gun.

I have two of them. I love them, and 550 rounds for 8 bucks is a good afternoon for me, not to mention they are great survival/target/plinking/small game rifles.

Best all around choice is the 10/22, anywhere from $120 used on up to 200 new. I wouldn't pay more than $150.

Embarassment of riches with .22 rifles, but the Ruger 10/22 stands out as the item to get. Some people say that they aren't all that accurate from the factory, but in a steady breeze, my Deluxe will hit a 1/2ft^2 steel plate every time offhand at 125 yards. Only thing Deluxe about it is the stock and the scope. If the factory barrel is smoothbore or throws shots around corners, get another barrel for $16 or whatever.

Get a 10/22. You shouldn't have to pay much more than $150 new. There's a guy on Sturmgewehr.com who was selling 4 of them of $600.

If you like hi-capacity, get the bananna mags, but you are going to PAY for them!

Give in and get a shotgun too! Have heard good things about the Mossberg 500 but shun them myself out of stupidity.

Actually that Baikal MP44 autoloader from Russia looks hideously interesting. 3-1/2" chamber, chrome lined for $450. Support the famous Ishevsk factory (or is it iZmash)and the fledging Soviet free market system!

just get a 22 kit for your M4gery, and you can have the best of both worlds, I just got a ceiner with 2 30 round mags today for $250, and love it! I can go to my favorite haunt (the gunshop/indoor range), and shoot 500 rds. for $10, never been happier [:D]

FWIW, Ciener sells the Atchisson 22 kits for the AR for $139.00 w/10 round Mag, or $179.00 w/30 round Mag.

sofa king, browning's new 2001 catalogue just came to the shop where i work on weekends. they have a number of new buck marks, two of which are rifle's. one is a regular 22 and the other is a bull 22. the diam. of the barel is .900!! the retail price is about 500 or so, maybe 20 or so more. cannot remember the exact price but it is very close to 500. not much more.

i was thinking of adding one to my toy collection even over the 10/22 Rueger

dang!! those are some expensive .22s:(
I was looking at spending under 200 bucks.
Those all look fantastic,but I would be fine with a cheaper model.I know Walmart sells some,but I hav'nt gone to see em yet.

Check pawn shops. I got both my 10-22's at pawn shops. Paid $75 for one with two 30 rd mags, and $125 for the other with a 30 rd mag and scope. At Wal-Mart, I think they are going for somewhere around $160.

When somebody comes into the store asking that question I hand them a 10/22 and tell them it is ALL the .22 they'll ever NEED. Then I tell them evetually they may WANT another but they'll never NEED another.

And I NEVER, EVER say this pitch when their wife/g.f. is with them.

Be careful; some of those rifles aren't of the best quality. I had one of the AK types-- the EARLIER ones. The later ones had shoddy quality and only 10 round mags. Mine had 30 rounders. In addition, the wood and metal on the later ones aren't as great.

Bottom line: The Mitchell/Jager/etc .22lr copies can be GREAT or they can SUCK. Check 'em out before you buy, and check 'em out THOROUGHLY.

I just bought one of those for my daughter off an auction site. The danged thing cost me $275! [:)]

If you want a really cheap .22, one of these Romanian training rifles will do the trick. They shoot very nicely and can be had for between $49 and $59.

I have one and it's a great off hand shooter. Nice feel, nice balance, and it has flip up rear sights for 25, 50, and 100 yards (or maybe meters) Came out of the box perfectly zeroed. Didn't have to touch a thing. Well, I did have to clean the cosmoline off of it.

Spend the $$$ and get a 10/22. I ran mine for as long as I could just to see what would happen to it. It only quit when the gunk built up so bad that the action couldn't move. It shoots as good now as it did when I bought it( 8 years and 1000's of rounds ago.) I have a 3-9x scope whith the see through rings that is just hell on rabbits,near and far.

Hey, They are hard to find but a Calico M-100 .22 is definetly the way to go. There everything that a gun should be light, reliable, acurate, insance magazine capacity [:d] I love mine it's been 100% dependable and has that "what the heck is that" effect when I go to the range

The used Calico's cost what three new Ruger 10/22 do in my neighborhood.

You can't go wrong with the 10/22 - it is the AR of the .22LR with dozens of barrels, stocks and sights available. When I get done with my $240 stainsteel model the only thing that will not have been changed out is the receiver.
