What GoPro to get > General Discussion

I am going on a cruise next month with the family and thinking about buying a GoPro for my 15 year old son. Are they all waterproof? I saw some different brand types on Amazon for way less money. Any experience with those, or should I just stick with GoPro? Any accessories that he will have to have?

I don't know much about them, I thought Sony was the better brand lately.

Get the one that is just as good as the actual GoPro, but half the price.

Not sure which one it is, but a lot of guys were talking about them here somewhere.

I have an "action camera" that fits all go pro accessories that I use for 3 gun, zip lining, and rafting. No problems here. It also doesn't do 4k but I don't care about that.

I use the Contour cams. They're great and less expensive than GoPros.

Before dropping the $, make sure your life is go-pro worthy.

IME, few really are.

eBay has factory refurbished Sessions for a good price.
eBay Session

If not that then maybe look for a Hero 4 Silver with the LCD if anyone still has them in stock?

My life certainly isn't, but a 15 year old boy could probably find some good stuff to film.

I have a hero 5 and it's by far a better camera than the 3 I had before.

I'm pretty boring but use it for time lapse stuff and a dash cam mostly.

Get a Xiaomi Yi2. Much better value for money. All the accessories you need are the waterproof housing, floating handle for water stuff, suction cup arm and that weird octopus tripod thingie. Also, don't forget to buy several batteries/memory cards.
