I found this at a local pawn shop and it seems over priced at $1200 but I don't know a lot about the older Colts, what do you guys think?

Offer them $800 cash and see what happens.

It's a Colt AR15A2 Sporter Carbine with slick side lower.

They were pretty common in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

OK. Here is my good deed for the month.

It is way overpriced.
Go to your favorite online gun selling/brokering site and plug in AR6720.
You can have a new comparable colt for many hundreds less.

Old Colts > New Colts
(No good deed goes unpunished.)

I regret having posted in this thread.

Go give the man your $1,200.

I will keep my opinions to myself about old Colt trigger pins, old Colt bolt carriers, and old Colt extended feed ramps.

Nevertheless, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Do you want to deal with the bushing and large hole pivot pin,
Does it have the search block and oversized trigger pins as well?

I'd pass at that price

Run of the mill 6520's are bringing $900-$950 right now.  That one is worth a little more to a collector because it's an early slab side. Only the first 5000 or so were slab sided IIRC.  I have the same gun that was a LEO trade in out of a Pennsylvania prison. It has a really cool patina and is one of my favorite AR's.

It's a 6520 Government Carbine. The Sporter Carbines are slab sided with A1 sights.

If OP's 6520 is preban it is worth far more than $1,200.

Not true even in the slightest.  That is essentially an older 6520 which IS an excellent gun...but the large hole front pin lowers the value substantially for THAT type of gun, IMO.  I wouldn't even give them 650 for it for that specific reason AND the fact that the carrier will be non shrouded which is MURDER on cotter pins.

Pre-ban Colt R6520 Government Carbine. Probably one of the most desired Colts during the ban era.

recent sale on Gunbroker for $1960

ETA: Pre-ban serial number range is GC018500 and below per Bigger Hammer's list.

On something like that, does anyone care about the large hole pivot pin?  If I owned it, I would use it as is.

I don't live in a ban state, so that's just an old, used Colt with goofy, non-standard parts.  I'd be in for about $500.
I have no idea what it would go for in a ban state.  $1,200 might actually be reasonable.

Colt firearm division would be preban 1988 or older Colt MFG. 88 or 89 and newer around here that rifle would bring that price as would the 6600 HBAR

Paid $550 for the same in LEO model trade in in January.
An old Gov Carbine usually is preban and should have milspec fire control pins. Mine does.

I bought this one for $699 from Buds last year but the earlier markings and no fence lower is what interested me the most in the rifle that I posted
