I have a Frigidaire top freezer fridge that's at least 12 years old (FPGS21TIAL2).  Over time, both the freezer and refrigerator sections have been getting warmer.  Today the freezer is 35 degrees and refrigerator is 55.  It's also leaking water down into the bottom of the refrigerator section and occasionally there is water in the kitchen floor in front of the fridge.

The temp control is set to max cold.  The evap fan is blowing air into the freezer and down into the fridge section.  That air is barely cold.  The door seals are not in great shape and probably need to be replaced soon.

I plan to buy a new fridge soon, but would really like to get this one running for a few more months while I complete kitchen remodeling.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions that could help me repair this?  Thanks for your help.

Did you check the coils? Have you vacuumed out the rear of the fridge from all of the debris?

Could be low freon, compressor slowing going bad, or very dirty coils that are interfering with the heat transfer process. Is it running all of the time?

^ this.  Pull the grill off the front under the door and vacuum the condenser off.  Ours collects dog and cat hair and dust and requires vacuuming at least once a year to stay cold, I try to do it spring and fall.

ETA, check the back too, pull the cardboard or metal backer off if necessary.

Unplug the thing.

Clean out the coils below.

Empty the freezer and access the coil in there.

Clean the defrost drain line.

Profit.

Could be a bad thermostat or a bad control board. How about some more information on the unit. Is your defrosters working?

Also do as others have said and clean the coils.

Thanks Guys!

Considering I've never cleaned the coils, I'm hoping that's it.  Lesson learned for me.

I appreciate the help.

This, should be a sticky.

Vacuum out underneath with a shopvac.     You can tape a smaller tube into the main tube.   Doesn't have to be airtight.   Bernoulli will take care of you.

I just discovered this thing.     It worked great to breath new life into my fridge, but I don't think it will work for you, unless the compressor has actually stopped working.

I bet it isn't defrosting and under the pan in the freezer is a block of ice in the cooling coil.
