Been there, done that... except I didn't ditch the bike... I just kicked it into high gear at got the fuck out of there. Have yet to ride that trail since!

I get a bee down my jersey or in my helmet about every month or two in warm weather. It always happens in a fast decent.

I have never hit a swarm of bees though. I hit swarms of gnats and flies frequently. I hit a swarm of loons once. That was a mess.

I'm going to guess african bees. African bees will continue to attack for 200 yards after first contact. Though there are other bees who also have an attitude problem.

Didn't mention what country that was in. Probably "Africanized Killer Bees." They don't need much provocation to attack and will continue attacking for miles.
