$100 Pawn shop buy, what have I got here?

I'm a SMLE ignoramous, school me.

My intent is to "Un- Bubba" it. What are my chances?

Doesn't look too far gone to me.Attached File

Has the barrel been cut? If not looks like you need a new forestock and handguards to make it right

Commercial export with full blown Bubba?

Clean it up and keep as a shooter. Not worth the money to restore.

Haven't found any holes yet!

Rifling is dark but strong, rusty and worn at the muzzle, we'll see what's there when I get time to clean it. Overall finish is not bad.

Barrel seems intact 25.5 inches

Don't need a Bubba blaster, but I Would like a representative specimen in my puny collection

It looks like the last one I did.  You can get Indian DP furniture and hardware from Springfield sporters

Should have, it's not a III*. A WWI era pre-conversion Enfield is a nice get.

Good find, you can restore it to it's proper .mil configuration, doesn't look molested.

1916 production, could have been at The Somme...

Whoever bubba'd that SMLE needs a beating.

Sometimes they still shoot great. One of my No4's has a horrendous looking 2-groove barrel, but is one of the better shooting Enfield's I've owned.

Re-barreling is an option, too.

I picked up a 1914 St. LE in about the same disrepair, Had a bore that looked
like the proverbial 'sewer pipe'. No matter how many times I scrubbed it, it still looked ugly.

Took it out and put 10 rounds through it, that revealed nice shiny lands, still a bit dark in the grooves,
but man it sure can shoot!

The problem with Enfields is you're always "missing just one."

Being robust in the face of corrosive and erosive primers, as well as chordite was the goal of Enfield (vs Metford) rifling.  It did work, up to a limit, I just hate seeing bad bores.

Y'all are making me wish I had some RIC photos hosted.

I restored a 1918 Enfield spotter a few years ago.  Same as yours.  It was fun getting all the parts and putting her back.  Sadly don't have a pic I sold it a few years ago.  Just started a savage mk4 that was sporterized.  The wood came in yesterday.  Waiting on the weekend to get a battle plan Attached File

It was done when that rifle sold for $20, and was no longer needed to stab huns.  Deer aren't as ferocious, and the rifle was put to better use @ the time.

Yep, I received one of their #1 MK III* drill purpose stock sets today for a .22 trainer (#2 MK IV) I'm putting together.....It cleaned-up very well. SS will have all the parts you will need.

I just took the barreled action to my smith this morning to have it re-lined.....I might see it again in a few months.

Here is one I did with a SS stock set several years ago.
