I manage a very very busy restaurant. For the last 10 years we would have the occasional walk out, where some assholes walked out on their bill and if we had the time, and the descriptions and video and license plates, we would pass it on to the police and never ever would we hear back from the cops.
Siince the beginning of February it has been busy as shit. It's a 240 capacity restaurant and many times we are completely full and the lobby there will be 40 people waiting. Anyway, we have had seven walkouts recently and all seven came back and paid. How? I put their pics and video and the prefix of their license plates on FACEBOOK. I simply stated in the FB post that these people FORGOT FORGOT FORGOT to pay and if you know them to please let us know. The post also contained a police incident report . 99.9% of the responses to the posts just ripped into the dashers and a few calls came in to let us know who these people were. The ladt post probably had 70,000 views. And these were deliberate walkouts, none of these were actually people who simply forgot to pay. Actually, one of the guys was persuaded by a detective to come in to pay because he was not a. Local, not geographically in our Facebook area. One of the local TV stations came in and did a two minute segment about this. And it was also discussion on the morning rock show. |

And I'm sure someone will ask why don't you prosecute these people. I would love to except you have to show that their intent was to rip you off.
if we had a whole bunch of time with the prosecutor, which we don't, we could show the videos where it was all planned out, But who has the time for that? So, in 10 years, let's say we had six walkouts at least, every year. Exactly 0 were resolved by the cops, and these were ones we are we would give the license plate, perp description, pics, etc. I even got in the car several times and chased people to get their license plate. And now, in six weeks I was able to resolve seven walkouts. Just like that. And each douche bag that comes in claims that they thought the other person in the party had paid. The usual MO is that the male of the couple would take the kids and go to the car and then several minutes later the female would wait around with the bill in her hand at the host stand and then just leave. None of these were stupid teenagers, all adults, most with kids. |

Just wait until you get a professional victim/FSA type insist that they paid their server cash and then the server pocketed the money because they were mad at them for some reason. Then the next thing they knew they were being accused of nonpayment on facebook by you, and suddenly everyone in their church/community is accusing them of being a thief. It'll probably be a shady pastor or one of his family who will accuse you of this. I've dealt with shitbirds like these before. |

Im sure theyre busy as hell. Even though you give them a picture of the license plate, they run it and then say well that's not the person who is in your dining room, they must've borrowed that car. Lots of stuff like that They dont fuck around. We had an employee Break in and steal a couple thousand dollars a few years ago and they got that fucker right away. |

Another thought OP. Do you have signs at the door stating cameras are in use? There are decals but not so obvious, from our video installer.. I just put one way up on a wall, next to a lobby cam DONT FORGET TO PAY YOUR TAB. ALL DINE AND DASHERS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT I have said before you could have a sign on the door that says poison gas do not enter and people will still come in. |

No legal ramifications? Just pay the bill you would have had to pay anyway? 15 minutes of local celebrity? Go for it!!! You're nobody until you've made the "Dine And Dash Site." People work in strange ways. |

I stated earlier that I'm not waiting for something serious to happen and then get the cameras. The camera above the register I can tell you exact change given to a customer. I can see how many shrimp are on somebody's plate even, if i can zoom in. |
