Hey guys. A guy at work had one of these that he had jailbreaked. It had regular tv on it, movies, ppv, etc. I have heard of the fire sticks but never heard of the fire tv. He said he bought it for 200$ and pays a 25$ monthly subscription.

What the heck is this and how does it exactly work? Is it legal? Wife and I want to ditch cable.

We have a Fire TV box as our primary streaming source.

There is no subscription fee per se, though you have to be a Prime member for that stuff. And you can subscribe to HBO, Skinemax, etc, through it, so that can add up.

Voice remote works very well, tons of free content and free apps you can add to it.

Buy a firestick for $40
Kodi crack it.
The only "subscription fee" is your Amazon membership.

If your buddy is paying that he is dumb.

Look up 5thavenueproject on YT.

No. It's not technically legal.
The Live Tv will be someone else streaming it and the quality may not be good or the stream may be dead the next time you try and pull i up. There are some paid services that can get you LiveTv, premium movie channels and sport channels for Kodi but they are bootleg but they say they guarantee stream quality and channels up. I won't name them here. Guy gave me a free 3 day trial. It does work and good stream quality but I didn't sub.

Live TV?  no.  Legality?  What is really legal.

Your coworker is getting raked across the coals.

Buy firestick or fire TV (Fire TV performs better), look up youtube tutorial on how to put Kodi on a fire TV.
Look up addons to install and look up appropriate tutorials on youtube. I'm not going to tell you what addons because some are very grey area.
Enjoy.

Most the streams are not legal or are grey area. Sometimes they randomly go down or never appear again.

I use the firestick with KODI but only use if for UFC fights with crappy cards I don't want to buy.  From what I have watched the good quality streams keep buffering so I have to watch the crappy pixelated ones, But who am I to complain you get what you pay for.  if anyone has found good UFC streams please let me know.

The grey area is interesting.

Is it like using the old napster ap? You could potentially be sued?

Might want to look into a VPN service with it but I know people who run it without a service.
I'm starting to think some cables companies say screw it, just buy our internet service

His buddy is probably paying for a IPTV service(bootleg) but they guarantee stream quality and Live channel uptime along with PPV without the buffering.

The $25 monthly subscription could well be for Sling TV. They have a $25 plan.

I have a Fire TV unit with Kodi installed.

I also pay for Netflix and am an Amazon Prime member.

There's almost TOO MUCH to watch.

The sling $25 takes away the ESPN channels that you get with the $20 plan but you do get the NFL Network added

ARFCOM, where taking a pressure washer from a company worth billions is bad but taking content from a media company worth billions is completely ok.

There is a Fire TV package that ships with HD antenna for local channels. That's the only free TV I can think of.
