| Who all participated today? My family did. |

Quoted:
I've always considered getting ashes a Catholic thing, even though my LCMS church does it, so no we didn't participate. Im Lutheran (Catholic-lite) and we always did it. I didn't go to church yesterday but I observe Lent every year. Im already going into sugar withdrawal. |

When we switched to our current one about 2 years ago, they were already doing it there. In both places it's an "optional" part of the service. You can come forward to receive them if you want. |

In Airborne School years ago, the chaplain came by on Ash Wednesday to give ashes to Roman Catholics just prior to first inspection. Got in line, got my ashes, got back into formation. Airborne instructor comes down the line, checks dog tags, ID card, helmet snaps, polish on boots, canteen of water. Looks me over side to side, stares at my forehead, finally says in a soft voice, "Sir, why in the HELL do you have dirt on your forehead?" |
