This season is so screwed up and it's the first spring I'm going to put down pre-emergent.  I'm worried I'm too late now.

Trees are blooming.  Some crab grass is already green.  Some flowers are already bloomed.  The few patches of Dhallisgrass we have are green (but I nuked them with round up last week).  Bermuda is still dormant.

But 2 days ago we dropped into the mid 20s for two nights.  Hopefully that stunted it.

Any advice on when I should spread the pre-emergent?  I'm mostly trying to battle weeds and crabgrass.

We had hail saturday and snow sunday.

I'm not even going to attempt pre-emergent this year.

My lawn looks like hell.  Back in September, it looked awesome but now, I've got more weeds than grass.  Between the constant wet conditions and random warm weather, my poor lawn hasn't had a chance.

I tried a weed killer during one of the warm spells but it didn't do much of anything.  Sprayed it on a 65 degree day and two days later it was back in the 30's.  I guess I'm goiny to try again once I can count on a week or so of decent weather.

We use a lawn service and they put it down a few weeks ago.  Going to mulch soon in the landscaping.

It depends on where you are and what weeds... but yeah, you're probably running late no matter what. I'm trying to get my pastures sprayed in the next 10 days, and if I do my yard it will be in the same time frame.

Use Atrazine, lots and lots of Atrazine.

Last month obviously.

I usually wait until the first of March but the warm winter has everything confused in my area. Noticed azaleas starting to bloom in my yard yesterday, that usually doesn't happen until late March or early April.

Over a foot of snow in my driveway this morning, so I'm still holding off for a bit

Summer weeds, like crabgrass, must have several consecutive days of temperatures above 55 degrees before they germinate.   You should be able to find local websites that give the daily soil temps.

Depending on where you are you are either too late, too early or right on time.

In our area we are already applying, but if you miss the "window", still apply and then follow up with a solid post emergent plan. You will get the ones that you missed with the pre product and then have extended control over any late germinating seeds. Realistically and depending on your goals and existing issues, pre-emergent is never a bad idea.

I have had to use the pre-post combo at odd times of the year to clean up properties that let themselves go.

In my experience, the best thing for crabgrass is a shovel.

Reseed bare spots if needed.

Crabgrass and dandelion are cup cakes call compare to clover.

Around here the old timers recommend putting pre-emergent down when the forsythia blooms.

I already use post-emergent on the lawn.

I shoot for early March, but my lawn is under 10" of snow right now.

When the Forsythia start to bud is when I always put it down. Makes life easy. Then put another set down in late June.

What do I need to put down if dandelion, clover and other weeds are already starting to grow like crazy on my yard? I haven't taken the best care of it in years past, and was planning on putting down some preemergent this year but I think I've missed the window here, as the weeds are already green and growing fast.

I thought about spraying the whole yard with 2-4d, but really don't have a clue what I'm doing.

2-4,D will get rid of most of that.  Just follow the instructions when you spray it on.  Wouldn't hurt to go ahead and do a pre-emergent too

Bump cuz I'm curious also.  Soil temp map was helpful.  Put it down before it hits 50.
