So, I'm sitting at work, screwing around with a tape measure for the last 20 minutes til I can go home. I look at the side of it...
Attached File Thats.... hmm... never seen metric before. So for shits and giggles I look at the tape to see how long it is... Attached File

Nope that's the fun part. The case is only metric, and the tape is only imperial. I could have understood if they did the first few inches in both... but nope. Quoted:

Does it have the correct measurement on the other side of the case? Fucking metric bullshit. Nope that's the fun part. The case is only metric, and the tape is only imperial. I could have understood if they did the first few inches in both... but nope. |
My wife was helping our daughter with a science project this week. She asks me "what's a metric ruler?"
I had to teach her about the metric system. She does hair for a living and has to mix colors and shit constantly. I asked her what units her scale was set for. "I don't know. I just know I'll need like .4 of this and .8 of that". Seriously? |

Just had an ISO audit last week. Auditor wants to know when was the last time we had our tape and ruler measures calibrated?
Neither would be used for anything that is less than +/- 1/2 of an inch. LOL! My boss just asked me if I've inspected the ladders lately and if we have replacement stickers. Told him they all have new stickers. In the envelopes in my office.

Not all tapes are made the same. Some are better, some worse.
Had a foreman layout 50 Anchor bolts in a foundation. I went to verify them before the concrete pour and found all of them to be off by a 1/2". After much head scratching I asked to see his tape. It was the same as mine... 30' Fat Max. We compared the two on a carpenters square and found that his 1 week old tape was exactly 1/2" off. He got so mad that he threw it against a concrete wall causing it to explode. I use total stations a lot more now

That's just a c-hair short of 3 inches. That's not even hard math, bro. ETA: Tape measure brought to you by the rocket surgeons who built that Mars probe. ![]() I make it 2 c-hairs. A.W.D. You're right, I was using the now obsolete "red" standard, which has been supplanted by the more precise "blond" standard. |

I prefer something without all those distracting lines.

Neither would be used for anything that is less than +/- 1/2 of an inch. Was he serious? That sounds like some lame auditor humor. |

I've always based my conversion off 10mm = .40, but I think yours is more precise. Quoted:

Everybody on here better know that 7.62mm = 0.3 inches. Move that decimal one place to the right and Robert's your mother's brother. I've always based my conversion off 10mm = .40, but I think yours is more precise. Another one is 0.1ft = 3cm/30mm. I use a folding rule in 10ths/100ths of feet at work and use this conversion quite a bit. |

I wonder how many people know why the hook on tape measures are slotted? Have always been curious why myself.. Is it to account for the thickness including the bend on the hook / tab thingy? Like if you push it against a wall and also hook it on the end of a board you get the same results? |
