| Is it worth it? What are some reputable companies? I'm going to purchase 5k in airline tickets plus lodging and expenses. With the new political climate in the world these bays I'm not sure I want to travel outside the country. I'm going in June and I get the feeling that Iran has a spanking coming. |
| Check your current provider. Many have an international plan you can purchase for a couple weeks. Is it worth it? Injured foreigners get stranded in other countries all the time since transporting them back home is so costly and they don't have travel insurance. They end up with huge medical bills and try to crowd source funds to have a chance at leaving. Just be sure you don't do something stupid that's not covered in the plan, or it won't matter what coverage you have anyways. |

For us it depends on the cost of the vacation. If it is a pricey one, we get the insurance. If not, we don't.
With that said, we've used it twice. Once was for an extended cruise and included airfare. It was a family reunion kind of thing and a few days before it was to start my nephew died. We were able to get all of our travel costs back, which was fortunate because we had to redirect our travel. The second time was because I contracted Legionnaire's disease while on vacation (another cruise but I contracted it in Florida before boarding the ship.) The travel insurance paid for medical expenses that my regular health insurance didn't cover, deductibles, co-pays, etc. For us it has been a worthwhile expense. |
| Grandparents were slated to travel to China for a vacation with their group when my father died suddenly. My grandfather had thought about taking Ins on the trip but figured what could happen so he didn't. As I recall they lost over $5k and that was almost thirty years ago. |

I always get insurance. I mainly use Travelex as its Primary insurance and has great coverage. If you don't mind Secondary insurance (most companies are) TravelGuard is good too. Or go to Insuremytrip.com and compare many choices |
