"Google employees and CEO on Monday staged a walkout in protest of President Trump's travel ban on Muslims from some Middle Eastern countries.

Monday afternoon, employees tweeted photos of a large crowd gathered outside of Google parent Alphabet's Mountain View headquarters and as well as other offices around the country. Employees are using #GooglersUnite and have walked out of eight different campuses, according to employee tweets. Those campuses include Mountain View, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York."

"At the Mountain View headquarters, CEO Sundar Pichai and Google co-founder and president of Alphabet, Sergey Brin, even showed up and gave speeches, according to employees."

Apparently 2,000 of them

http://www.theverge.com/google/2017/1/30/14446466/google-immigration-protest-walkout-trump-googlers-unite

"More than 2,000 Google employees in offices around the world staged a walkout on Monday afternoon in protest of President Donald Trump’s executive order banning immigration in seven Muslim-majority countries. Using the hashtag #GooglersUnite, employees tweeted photos and videos of walkout actions around the world, including at headquarters in Mountain View, California.

The protest came after employees donated more than $2 million to a crisis fund that will be distributed among nonprofit groups working to support refugees. Google match employees’ donation with $2 million. "This was in direct response to the immigration action," Enzam Hossain, an employee on the Mountain View campus, told The Verge. "We wanted to be a part of it, and support our colleagues who are facing it."

"The protest was organized by employees but supported by Google, sources said. Employees began organizing during the last few days using internal listservs, employees told The Verge."

Longtime Google CEO: Trump team 'going to do these evil things'
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 01/31/17 08:55 AM EST

"The executive chairman of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, told employees last week that President Trump’s White House will do “evil things” to push its economic growth agenda.

Eric Schmidt, who was previously Google's CEO, made the statement during a weekly meeting at the company’s headquarters, according to a transcript of the comments obtained by BuzzFeed News.

“And so I think at the end of the day, they are going to do these evil things as they’ve done in the immigration area and perhaps some others, but the core focus is going to be to get the growth rate in the country — which is roughly one and a half to two percent — up another point by simply pushing through increases in federal spending and overcoming the tea party.”

Schmidt was among multiple technology executives who met with the president at Trump Tower in New York during the transition period.
Google created a $4 million crisis fund over the weekend after Trump signed an executive order imposing a 90-day ban on nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the U.S. The order also includes a 120-day ban on admitting refugees and an indefinite halt on admitting refugees form Syria.

A spokesperson for the company declined to comment to BuzzFeed.

“Don’t be evil” was Google’s unofficial slogan during its early years as a startup in Silicon Valley."

"Gloves are off as tech companies fight back against Trump’s immigration order"

"Silicon Valley has a strong reason to speak out: About 53 percent of its engineers are foreign-born, Guardino said."

"When President Donald Trump sat down with leaders from Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook and other tech firms shortly after his election, the meeting was more of a cordial gathering than a fiery clash between government and an industry that powers the economy. But the detente is over.

"The company, which said in an internal memo to employees that the order affected at least 187 of its workers, launched a $4 million immigration crisis fund."

"Uber’s competitor Lyft pledged to donate $1 million to the American Civil Liberties Union, which is suing the Trump administration over the immigration ban and has reportedly raised more than $24 million in online donations since Saturday. Uber also made a $3 million pledge of its own to help drivers with immigration services."
