It's not about the editing i really like the management features. Thanks! |

I just pay the $10 a month for the Photographer CC bundle from Adobe. All the latest updates and tools, Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, and Camera RAW with all features unlocked. Occasionally goes on sale for less per month or per year. I'm just a filthy casual, so id rather just spend the $70-$100 and use it until the computer dies (4 years maybe) then spend $480 for the same amount of time. I can live with an old version. |

Don't be in a rush. I've seen groupons and other deals for lightroom for as low as $75 including CS. Hmm, I gotta keep an eye my version of Photoshop is frikin' old. With Win 10, interface a little flaky but it works. Getting annoying. ETA: I might just break down and subscribe. Difficult for the cheap bastad in me.

If you use Canon hardware then you can get DPP for free. The Nikon equivalent is also free, and much better than the Canon software. I would say that I'm semi-pro and the $10/mo deal is beyond worth it for me. Even for the causal shooter, I would think it's worth it. You can cancel at any time. |

This, or if you have a Nikon camera then you can use Nikon's software, Capture NX-D, for free also. http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/162/Capture_NX-D.html Capture NX-D can work with raw picture image data, has built in lens correction data, and also has separate tools for working with JPEGs that already exist. I haven't used Canon's software but I imagine it is the same. After I figured out Capture NX-D, I only shoot in raw format and do all of my edits through the software. It's really powerful and totally free, even if you don't own a Nikon camera. |

I used a free trial of Lightroom and liked it. If it goes on sale again I'll probably buy it. ETA: I used Photoshop Elements, not Lightroom. I've seen Elements as low as $40. Lightroom looks complicated and is way over my head. |

I was initially skeptical of the monthly-fee thing (I prefer to purchase outright, too) but it's honestly well worth the cost. |

I ended up getting lightroom & photoshop when signing up for 500px. Basically got it for the $9/mo and got the top tier of 500px's offerings for free.
https://500px.com/upgrade Its $13/mo now, but still worth it in my opinion. Comes with a portfolio website for ya and some other options for sharing your work if you're a photographer |

I have been using it since LR2.0 it is the only way to manage huge uploads and collections of digital photos. I dont thdink i could work without it to be honest. Before LR it was always a chore managicng my Digital photography. As some one else said you may find it cheaper. But to be honest it was the first program i acrually had no problem paying full price for. Have fun with it and get used to the keyboard short cuts you will speed through your stuff. |

I don't use any of the Photo editing programs, but my wife uses Adobe. She got a license for Paintshop Pro with a recent camera purchase. I looked up the price to maybe sell it, and was pretty surprised how affordable it was.
