[ARCHIVED THREAD] - NASA Under Trump (Page 1 of 5)

I was pleased Trump mentioned space during his inauguration.
Not much, but he said "ready to unlock the mysteries of space." I haven't heard a President for a while discuss space, at all. Couldn't believe Obama didn't make a HUGE deal about New Horizons passing by Pluto. I followed that real close. Space is my hypocrisy. I hate big government, taxes and really expensive projects...but I love NASA missions. I've heard NASA referred to as "the President's baby" a few times. Is that accurate? What type of missions do you think we'll see? I don't need manned missions to Mars, but I'd love to see the NH mission explore to Kupiter Belt. Maybe even see that submarine probe sent to Titan. (If you haven't heard about it, read this. What do you guys think we'll see, and what would you like to see out of the space program? (I'm even open to haters who think NASA should be defunded, but I disagree with you.) |
| I was surprised by his even brief mention of space during the speech. He hasn't really said much about it before now, but we know that he wants to re-focus NASA on exploration in a big way, and transfer earth science responsibility to other agencies. I hope he sets some near term exploration goals that can really move us along the path, which is what we really need now. I want to go to Mars as much as anyone, but this whole "and we're going to go to Mars by [inauguration date plus 20 years]" bullshit isn't helping. We need near term accomplishments that push us along the path, the long game hasn't worked out. |

I loved that Trump mentioned space exploration. Presidents rarely mention it, unless they're talking budget cuts. I hope NASA gets the money to go back to the Moon, or even Mars. But it will require a commitment. No bucks, no Buck Rogers. I really hope he follows through. Space exploration is amazing. |

The head of NASA is a retired Marine General BTW. ![]() He's an Obama stooge. He's the one who made the statement that NASA's purpose was to reach out to Muslims. The sooner he's gone, the better. His statement: "When I became the NASA administrator, (President Obama) charged me with three things," Bolden said in the interview which aired last week. "One, he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering." What the fuck does this has to do with NASA and space exploration? Boot his ass out! |

I'm sure he'd want to do badass space stuff! No more climate faggotry. Let's make America turn on their TV and say "Holy.....shit.: Quoted:

Let's make America turn on their TV and say "Holy.....shit.: Charles Bolden is a good man. I worked with him while he was the Assistant Wing Commander at 3rd MAW (a one star billet). However, he is an Obama lackey and has made some strange comments/decisions over the past few years. He needs to go. My cousin works for NASA at Cape Canaveral and the rank and file NASA employees would agree he needs to go. |

Private collaboration with NASA would be great. SpaceX could do the tourism part to generate themselves revenue, NASA could do more exploration. That's what COTS is. Spacex and NASA have been working in collaboration for years. In only a handful of years, we're going to see American astronauts using Spacex vehicles for manned missions. Spacex isn't really going for tourism. They're going for reducing the cost of access to earth orbit. |

I just want to see new technology, new pictures, new exploration and new victories for mankind. |

I hope he scrubs the SLS and has NASA collaborate with spacex on the Mars colonial transport. No! SLS and Orion are our primary means of deep space exploration. There's nothing else. We've already spent billions of dollars on their development. Let NASA finish the spaceships. As far as the SpaceX Interplanetary Transport, well, it's very ambitious. I mean, really ambitious! I'll start believing in it when they start cutting the first metal. |

Shut down NASA and let SpaceX do the job!
I am not really into the politics much of space exploration, but recently the private sector has done a lot more than NASA did in 40yrs SpaceX has been able to reuse the rockets. NASA sure as fuck didn't! I call that impressive! Giving my admitted limited knowledge of the space program. |
|
Only a minor portion of the N.A.S.A. budget is dedicated to getting a vehicle back into space. The vast majority is for other than vehicle development.
The N.A.S.A. budget is about 18 Billion dollars. A single line on a pie chart with no width. Merely a marker or place holder. To say that it is a waste of money is to be blind to the massive waste of monies on social engineering and useless bureaucracy. You could triple the N.A.S.A. budget by stopping foreign aid. You could increase the N.A.S.A. by multiples by reducing fraud in Medicare and welfare. The return on monies invested in the N.A.S.A. is in the technological advances that are made and the information is freely given to the public. |

All of that was done by the N.A.S.A. and used by anyone that wanted the information. |

Virgin Galactic hardly qualifies as space tourism. The energy required for orbit is beyond tourism dollars. |

I understand your point, I'm not suggesting Virgin or Space X would have walking moon tours. However, working together they might find a cheaper easier way for a variety of things. That's all I'm saying. |
