How is it dealing with them? How hard is it to cancel the free trial? Would I have to call to cancel the trial?

Their club prices are very good, but I wont buy often enough to warrant pay monthly for a membership.

Edit: since it will be my first purchase, I get an additional 20% off up to 30$.

I can't speak to canceling the free trial, but other than that, I never had any problems with them.  Their pix and descriptions are pretty good, but, as with all vendors of this type, know that "mil-style" /= "military"

I've had decent service from them. No experience in cancellations.

A couple times I ordered items from their "Guide Gear" line thinking it could be a bargain and found it to be cheap, inferior Chinese crap. Now I just avoid that stuff and I'm doing OK.

The membership is yearly and easy enough to cancel.

They run enough promos that the "club" savings pays for itself if you buy more than a few cases of ammo a year, or if you use the buying membership promo on a first  big order.  Free shipping combined with double club discount or % off are the ones to look for after.

Surplus like ammo cans and some things like optics can also occasionally be a good deal, but I've mostly used them for ammo.

Haven't bought from them since the good ol days of 2,700 round south african battle pack boxes for $290.

I've bought a few things over the years from them. I was a member of the buyers club for awhile(I think it was the free trial membership)and had no problems cancelling it. I liked them better when they used to sell the t-shirts with funny logos and had cheap surplus gear. Now they are trying to be like Cabelas, only SG usually has inferior gear for almost the same price.

I buy almost all my ammo from them.   Search out the good deals and free shipping.   I use the four pay to stay under my toy budget and help hide the cost from the wife

There were a few times when I ordered ammo while it was in stock and it got put on backorder. I agreed to wait until they got it in stock. I ended up having to wait about 5 months, looked on their site, and they had it in stock but at a higher price. I figured they'd never honor the price they originally sold it for so I just cancelled my orders.

Plan on having to call in to cancel the Free Trial. I signed up for it a couple years ago and there is nowhere online it could be canceled. Then the CS really tried to keep the hustle going.

They are excellent in my experience .... I have used the 4 pay quite a few times

Pretty sweet deal they ship your order (firearms, ammo, optics whatever) you pay 25% up front and they automatically pull the remaining balance over the next 3 months

Never had an issue to date

You can cancel the free trial online.

I use the 30 day trial to order several k of wolf gold and then cancel. You can cancel the trial right after your order and it just expires after 30days.

Only problem I have ever had is some items may backorder after you order. But they normally handle it fine.  Only happened on 22lr a few years ago.

I used to shop there before the internet, when they were the only place to get stuff and when Gary Olen really did own the place.  It was sold to some big company about 10 years ago and its not the same.

I buy a lot of ammo from them. When they have free shipping codes, which is most of the time, their ammo prices cannot be beat. It is a pain to cancel the buyers club. I would avoid the club unless you are going to buy enough to justify the cost

They can be a good deal if there are items you need, otherwise just  buy without the membership.  Its one of those things where you just need to take a pen and paper and figure out what works best for you.

I used to order ammo from them years ago and they can definitely have good deals.

I once ordered some Russian 7.62X54R and was delivered Albanian ammo.  The picture clearly showed Russian.  If it had been any other country such as Bulgarian, Hungarian, etc, I wouldn't care, but Albanian ammo has a bad reputation.  I had them pay for return shipping (sent me a label).  The two crates were still sealed though so they could see it wasn't tampered with.

As someone else posted, make sure you know what you are buying.

Signed up for the 30 day free trial and bought 1K .224 bullets and 2 Remington springer .22 rifles. After the transaction was complete I removed my credit card info from my account. The other day I got an email stating that I had been charged for a yearly membership. Last night I pretended to make a purchase from the shopping cart but it appeared that I no longer had an account and the next page was one to create a new account. Didn't complete the form and now I'm wondering if they did actually charge me for membership or not. Guess I'll have to look at my CC statement to get that answer.

I should have ordered pallets of those.
And ditto for me, I haven't even seen a catalog of theirs since the early 2000's.

Buyers club+lots of free shipping deals+4 club pay (split payments over four months)=great way to buy ammo

Plus sometimes that still have good surplus, although the variety of it is not as great as it used to be.

They are 90 minutes away.  I have bought a lot from them over the years.  I usually just pick it up when I'm in St.Paul.
I've never had to return anything so I can't speak to that, but they had decent prices on Anderson complete lowers even right before the election.

They are GTG with me.

With the 30 day trial, you literally uncheck a box in your profile that's says automatically renew.  That's it, and it won't charge you the membership fee after the 30 days. I just did it a month ago.

Just the ability to buy a gun 4pay is reason enough

Please excuse potato pic
Only gripe i have is they dont really protect ammo correctly and fragile boxes like wolf 762 may come apart in shipping

I recall some shenanigans like not honoring catalog prices on ammo back in 2008 / 9.  Haven't ordered with them since then.

I've ordered things from them for years.  I think they've been sending a catalog to my Mom since 1986 and she sends me all kinds of things from them a few times a year.  Their prices aren't bad but the young lady who works in their return department is a bitch.  I ordered British Army sweater and what they sent didn't match their size description.  They claimed the sweater was a large and theres no way in hell this was a large.  They obviously have no understanding of the metric system.  I called their customer service to see about an exchange.  She copped an attitude when I asked for a return label because I didn't think I should have to pay return shipping for their mistake.  Seeing they weren't going to be of any help, I said screw it and gave the sweater to my nine year old.  She likes the sweater and I'll get one in the right sized Varustrekla in Finland where they know about Royales with cheese and the metric system.

I think he sold it to a French company but I'm not 100% sure.

The new company still used Gary's image and tried to play it off like nothing had changed. I don't know if they are still doing that.

Same here.  I remember they had a glitch somebody found. You added something to the cart and then got free shipping and later removed the item, checked out and still had free shipping on the crates of ammo.  They honored it.
I quit them when they cancelled my order on parts kits. They quit shipping to Ohio because of some crap in Toledo.

I remember 20 years ago when I used to love their catalogs. They've changed over the years, some good, some not so good. If you receive emails from them, you can catch free shipping almost every other day which actually makes purchasing from them a lot more economical than it once was. Used to be their list prices were decent, but once you paid shipping, you were paying what you'd pay for an item from a store more or less.

They still surprise you with some random surplus items also.

They routinely come up with some interesting items.  They had some Polish AK armorer's kits for $99 a few years back.  Interesting from a historical/collecting perspective.

I used to belong to their club & shop in their store.

I dropped the membership after the last liberal-manufactured-crisis, maybe after Sandy Hook, because they took forever to ship ammo, like months.  They did that for a couple of the previous crises too.  Sometimes they would send an occasional E mail asking if I wanted to cancel the order, but it was inconsistent.

I also shopped their store in South St. Paul a fair amount because they'd have some real good bargains but they were reconfiguring it & in the process of marking everything 50% off MSRP, which really isn't much of a bargain on returned merchandise, sales samples, and obsolete merchandise.  That was probably in October or November.  I'll go back to the store to check it out I guess.

ETA: I haven't gotten a catalog from them in several years.  They used to send one very few weeks.

I did the trial membership but miscalculated the end date and ended up becoming a member. Not a big deal as during the trial period I ordered more than enough ammo to pay for the membership fee.

Have had no problems with shipping but their packaging/padding could be improved.

They run specials but seems like the best deals I have found have been thru Slickguns.com.

I can't attest to the membership but I purchased a scope from them that turned out to be a POSs and they were really nice about the return. It was easy to speak to a real person and they spoke English.

This is what I remember.  And using the buyers club membership "Trick" to get free shipping on the big plastic tub.

It worked like this, place a small item in basket and continue to shop until you are offered membership and free shipping on first order. I think you had to decline the membership once before it would offer free shipping???  Can't remember for sure.  Either way, once you got the free shipping offer is when you would put the SA tub in your basket and remove everything else and check out.  You got the tub shipped for free!!  Otherwise shipping was almost $80 bucks and believe it or not 2700 rounds for $370 was not that great of a deal...

I did this three times with two different friends, each buying a membership.  We each got a tub and a year membership.  AHH the good Ol days.  Hey get off my grass!
