Holy crap this game is immersive. I've probably spent more time in the codex and journals than I have walking around.
The game also screams KOTOR in art style and interface, which is understandable since it's Bioware. So I have a few questions Should I develop all the character evenly or should I focus on a few characters? Should I be converting any unused guns to Omni gel or selling them? Any other tips that won't spoil it? |

Developing them evenly isn't hard, as I recall. I believe team members get experience even when they're on the ship. Just add them to your team occasionally and spend their points.
Make sure you work on your social skills, either nice or aggressive. (I forget the actual terms, maybe Paragon/Renegade?) There are situations in the game, some pretty bad, that you can't resolve satisfactorily without one or the other. |

At the end of game 3... kinda spoiler Click To View Spoiler
I still love the series though. |

Any that you favored? |

Skip Mass Effect 3. JMHO it was good up until the end, and then it sucked.
It's like the developers had no idea how to end the game, so they made it different flavors of pure shit. When criticized over the ending, they doubled down on the shit flavor while claiming to make it taste like smooth, creamy milk chocolate. |

In all honesty, the game was fun mostly for the story. Knowing they were going to fuck it up in 3, I feel that I am happier in the same way that I'm happier not at all remembering Star Wars episodes 1-3, or the same way I would have been if I'd not gone to see Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull on a whim. |

A bit OT from the games but I watched Tomorrowland last night (meh) and the few opening scenes when the two main characters get to Tomorrowland reminded me of the Citadel and what a fantastic movie ME universe would make.
Anyhow OP, enjoy the games. As another poster pointed out, do all side missions, etc. And if you still want more, the books are pretty damn good, too. |

SO fucking good. I love the entire series, can't wait for the next game. I have ONE piece of advice, especially with the first game (but seriously do it with all the games) - and that is save often and in multiples. The Mass Effect games are a bit buggy.
I bricked ME1 a few times, once just minutes from the end of the game. My save was even corrupt, so I had to go back to another save. With that one exception aside, those games are nearly perfect. |

Stop playing after Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 3 is a steaming pile of shit that fucked all fans of the series. 3 is a great game until the ending. Click To View Spoiler |

In ME1 convert all unused equipment level 5 and below to omnigel. Sell level 6 and above for credits. You'll have no shortage of money by the middle of the game.
Don't spend points on decryption or electronics on yourself. Bring along a support character for those. You'll automatically get some charm and intimidate as the game progress, don't fill those out completely or you'll lose the bonus. Characters all advance at the same rate whether you take them on missions or not. There are tons of dialog options depending who's with you, you'd need several playthroughs to get them all so just pick your favorites. Some choices you make now carry forward all the way to the end but you can't really screw anything up beyond saving the series. If you plan on playing again try to get 150 kills with each weapon type and use each ability 150. That will unlock them for any class. The voice actor for the female Shepard is much better than the male. It's worth playing as femshep just for that. ME2 is one of the greatest games ever. ME3 was still very good, one of the few games I've played that gave me a real sense of urgency. The ending makes a lot more sense if you subscribe to the indoctrination fan theory, but I'm not going to say anything more about that to not spoil it. It does require you to pay attention to the entire series and do some actual thinking, so the vast majority of gamers glossed over and hated the end. |

The ending of 3 was NOT terrible. What it was, was a complete letdown after hundreds of hours of spectacular story telling that got all of us who loved the series so emotionally invested that many, as noted by above posts, even to this day can't speak about it without resorting to hyperbole.
The ending was merely OK. Do not let it stop you from playing the games. The game mechanics, though different each time, steadily improve from 1 to 3. Strap in and enjoy the ride. I still consider it the best series, and my most favorite, that I have ever played. If nothing else, look at it as a good primer for understanding the ME universe so you can play Andromeda when it comes out. |

The trilogy is best played as a single continuous run. The tool bioware added to let you customize your actions in the previous games doesn't allow for all of the choices that were available. An actual completionist run is more rewarding. You can also download other peoples saves and import them as if they were your own if you want to skip tedious shit like the driving the Mako over ridiculous terrain in search of anomalies minigame.
