Besides the smell of my burning tooth and that high pitch tool, the only good part is the pain meds.

Root canals are bad, but there are much worse pains than that.

Of all the dental specialties, endodontics was the best.

Ah, its not that bad. Have them gas you up real good with plenty of Nitrous and sit back. I fell asleep 4 times during mine.

Had one recently, and to be honest... it was as pain-free as one could reasonably expect a dental procedure to be. No biggie.

I had one done a few years ago, about 7 months later had more problems and ended up having the tooth pulled. I wanted it pulled to begin with but they said no we can save it with a root canal and crown....I could have saved a few $$$ the first time around if I would have had it pulled...

I've never had a root canal, but I have an implant.  That involved a lot of surgery and drugs.

I've had three in the last 2 years. My endidontist told me "I've never seen deeper nerve roots than yours, I have a special set of files for that deep I've never used!".

I was like, oh, awesome does that mean I get a special rate or a smiley sticker?

No, what I did get was mind-numbing post-operation pain that felt like a mule kicked my jaw....awful. Took some opiates to take the sting off that shit.

Lucky me.

Should be no more than an hour of chair time.  In the mouth no more than 20-30 min if the doc knows his shit.

You do have to pick your battles. But this is true for any procedure.

I went into periodontics (gum gardening -- for scientific reasons), but if I had been a clinical dentist, and wanted to specialize, I would have chosen endodontics. The morbidity of periodontics was too much, although you could feel proud about saving teeth and restoring gingival health.

i paid for 6 of them when I paid for all of my dental work that I'm in the middle of now.. turns out, I didn't even need one. That was the best news I heard through this whole ordeal.

There is some weird link between root canals and heart disease. It is not that each one shortens your life, but it does seem to indicate that it will be shorter.

Doc said mine was deep.

Three root, number three molar.

Mine was done between 13:00 and 14:00 today.

I am on aspirin.  I feel fine.  It hurt worse before.

He wanted another $9,000 to do everything he wanted. I looked at his office staff like they were insane.  Good dentist and I do not fault him for the loss of the tooth but my insurance will not cover that amount of money....

The only pain meds I took after a root canal were ibuprofen and acetaminophen.

Had one done today, pretty benign aftermath.  Endodontist only, next stop is my dentist to get the crown done.

I had zero pain after my root canals, but I paid big money for them,  I hated to pay, but it was money well spent.

I had one done a few months ago on a lateral incisor and it didn't hurt because the root was completely dead.  I had zero pain before, during and after, it was surreal.  I thought for sure I was gonna cry like a little girl.

It was a chipped tooth from when I was a kid, took 30 years to finally die.

Just had a root canaled and capped tooth break off at the gum line a few weeks ago while eating. Had the remnants pulled 8 days ago and it's still hurting a good bit today. Kinda sucks.
