So yes, I am bored, and I got curious about something.
I looked at the top ten threads in my thread subscription list, and compared the number of "reads" to the number of "replies." Then I did the math and found out something very interesting - the "reply rate" as a percentage of "reads" is remarkably consistent! In all cases it was between 2 and 3 percent. Weird. Seems like, on average, from my statistical sample size of ten, only about 2 or 3 percent of us give enough of a fuck about whatever we're reading to post a reply. Maybe some statisticians on here would like to kick this around for fun. |

I think, too, that if one were to gather data from all those posters, it would be apparent that 80% of all posts come from just 20% of those who post.
This is much how the world works. Generally less than 10% actually participate on a regular basis, while 20% of those that do participate do so much of the time (80%), while a larger number (80%) do contribute regularly, but at a more infrequent rate (20%). |

This! Im going to reply just to fuck up this thread's read post ratio. |

This subject is relevant to my interests. Seriously, I've been researching these sorts of statistics lately.
Across social media, the average engagement rate runs between 3-5%. 10% engagement rate is considered a smashing success. Above that, you're gold. My research has been geared primarily to building up the GF's instagram account (the metrics there are # of subscribers compared to # of likes and comments) , but I'm not surprised at all to see that the math works loosely here as well. Take for example her last art thread here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1936069_I_don_t_know_how_she_is_doing_this__New_drawing_thread_.html As of this post, it currently has 4621 views, 57 replies. Or, a little over 1% - this tells me that ARFCOM as a whole has lost interest in her drawing threads. It's odd and almost paradoxical considering that the lion is hands down her best and most impressive drawing yet. Previous submissions had a far higher engagement rate, even though the drawings themselves were not as good. As an example, her gyrfalcon was above 3% (aka the low end of an acceptable return) If I was more in the 5-10% engagement range, I would say that the membership is still interested. Based on this, I don't figure I'll be doing many more art threads here. Which sucks for those that do enjoy them, but oh well. If the response rate can't at least hit average, it's not worth doing. |
