Why do I want one so bad? I've got a 270, 7-08, 30-30, 300 Blk and 243 for deer, which is my only purpose for a rifle.
After I bought my wife's 243 Axis, I fell in love with the platform. The only thing they offer that I like is the 25-06. I need it like I need a hole in the head. But I'm probably going to pick one up next year. I used to swear I'd never have more than one deer rifle.

This.... not the easiest ammo to find. Plus you have a 270 same case just slightly bigger bullet. Quoted:

Had one, was impressed with it. But it only liked one load, that was a federal premium 117gr sierra boat tail game king. I managed to find a few boxes but that became harder to find during the big panic of a few years ago.
I sold that rifle since I do not reload. |

I had a left hand Rem700 25-06 long ago. Took a bunch of deer with it of a bunch of years. A friend was a lefty and wanted it real bad. He traded me a Mohawk 600 in 308 for it.
I shoot ambidextrous so it didn't matter to me. Wish I still had the 25-06 though. It was a great Shooting rifle. Still have the Mohawk 600 now almost 30 years later. |

.25-06 is great because there is hardly any recoil.
However, the long powder column and long action are totally unnecessary. The .257" bore is the most neglected diameter of all, when it really should be more of a staple choice. I would look at .25 WSSM instead, so you can get a short action. You can get an AR15 in .25 WSSM from D-TECH. |

Quoted: If you have a .243 or .270 you don't need a .25-06rem. I have all three. Needs got nothing to do with it. My wife bought me a Kimber Montana in .25-06 for my B-day. I haven't had much time to play with it outside of sighting it in but I'm quite happy with it. |

I have one and love it, it's my go to for antelope and deer. Lots of power without much recoil. I load Nosler 115gr ballistic tips to 3100fps. As stated it is better if you hand load as ammo can be expensive. As also mentioned is does have a very sharp report. |

Had two. First one was a factory Remington 700 24". Rebarreled that with a 26" Shilen. Both barrels only lasted about 1200 rounds before the throat was too long to seat a 120 grain bullet anywhere near the lands without falling out of the case.
It's a barrel burner. Worse with light bullets. Shoot sparingly. However, the 25-06 kills deer like lightening struck them. Never had one go more than a body length before dropping. Massive lung/heart destruction. Moderate meat damage if hit in shoulder area. I liked the Sierra 120 HPBT and the 117 SST. Don't have one now...rebarrelled to .280 Remington for long barrel life, better bullet selection, and better long range ballistics. |

Love mine! Custom build off a 700 Rem action. Hogue stock, Shilen barrel, etc. Mine is also picky with bullet weight. Shoots best with 75gr custom load and will turn a ground hog inside out at 300yrds. Yeah another great 6.5mm thats kinda slowed down sales-wise in the last 15 to 20 but still has a strong following. If I could justify buying one I would but my limited deer/lope/hog needs are filled rather nicley now with .308s and .243s. I'd consider the 6.5s about THE perfect deer hunting caliber. Its no surprise they are becoming more popular this side of the pond cause they always have been elsewhere. Its a good time to be reloading them too. Gte a 24" tube and use it for deer/varmint. |
|
A friend of mine's father has used a .25-06 for everything up to, and including Elk, for 30+ years. Manageable recoil, fast bullet, effective cartridge. There are newer and sexier cartridges, but a .25-06 is quite adequate for nearly all of the game on the continent.
That being said... you've got the caliber range covered pretty well. Go ahead and buy one just for fun if that floats your boat, but the .25-06 isn't going to do anything for you that your other calibers can't. |

For people who willfully admit they are too much of a pussy for .30-06. Aren't the .30-06 guys just the ones who are too big of girly-girls to step up to a belted magnum? ![]() .30-06 is the perfect medium. Get the kickass of the belted mags with just enough kick to make you pay attention. |
