As a work of art it was beautiful. As a movie it was bad. ETA: if anyone gets an oscar from that it should have been Hardy. Quoted:

Real mountain men wouldn't spend that much time in freezing cold water. Other than that it was a pretty good movie. Beautifully shot. Yeah I was wondering how cold water killed him dead in Titanic but he's immune to it after going a couple of rounds with a grizzly bear. |

I was left wondering when the plot would start, and why they wasted so much time doing similar stuff over and over again. It's a decent movie, but DID NOT live up to the hype. Because they missed the whole point of him living. It was to get his rifle back from the sack of shit that stole it from him. |

I was very taken with the actual story, and having been to that part of the Dakota's many times, the mountains fucking bother me. Granted it's beautifully shot, but could we just have divorced it completely from history rather than trying to shoehorn Glass's story into it? Just say it's a made-up or "original" idea, rather than jamming something with historical precedent into your art project.
And the uniform he wears in what I surmise is an example of the Arikara War is totally fucked. If you're going to do a period piece, get that shit right! And Fuck Inarritu, for his Manifest Destiny-hating agenda. OK..... I'm done.... |

I guess I'm the odd man out here. I thought it was a really good movie. I definitely did not expect his son to die, especially the way it happened. I thought it was a very good story of good vs. evil, a father's vengeance. No OP, a lot of us loved the movie. Keep in mind that the attention span of many GD'ers is far too short for them to enjoy many such things. |
