apologies if this has been done before.

im in need of a new watch and am open to suggestions. I've been wanting a g shock or similar for a while but there are so many damn options. I am by no means set on a g-shock, so please feel free to recommend anything else.

would like to keep it under $200 and the cheaper the better.

edit - not partial to either digital or analog.... so pretty much just post up what watches you guys have / like / recommend....

You need the good ole DW6900. Will run you under $40 on Amazon, all the features you need.

Unless you want to step up to solar.

Can you get a luminox or traser in the price range?  Tritium illumination is tits.

You could get like 5 of them for $200.  Just pick the style you like best. They are all good.

Other than the night vision backlight, the Fenix 3 can do most everything the Tactic Bravo can do at about $200-300 cheaper. Base models Fenix 3 is on sale now for $375 if the Op wants to stretch his budget or search Craigslist and find a lightly used one for less (bought mine that way for $250)

I have g-shock that I've worn for years and it will probably outlive me. I've since moved to the Fenix 3 since I do tri's and its way more useful in that respect. Pairing it to my cell phone and getting emails and texts is an added bonus.

While you're at it...buy a replacement armband from China on Ebay---through Suunto, the plastic bands are like $55.00.

For the same price you can get fixed lug adapters and a nylon band that won't break on you in a few months. Much better than the any of the rubber bands that will break.

I have the GA100-1a1.  My first watch in years.  Got it a few months ago and really like it.

I think a Rangeman is in my future.

I wear a GA100 daily.  hit up jayandkays for strap adapters.  fit/finish is nice and it beats the hell out of the stock straps

I've worn several higher end watches over the years but to be honest one of the best watches for the buck is the G-Shock  Analog /  Digital that can be found at large chain stores like Target & Wallyworld for around $80 to $90 bucks or less.

Having a clear set of hands to read on an old school style watch face is important when you want to take a quick glance without squinting at a digital screen. This also helps when you get older and your eyes need reading glasses. It function and looks like a $300 plus watch with all the protection and "tacticool" needed for what it does.

They come in two color patterns.  One in red lettering and the other with a more military yellow.

Have a look  Casio G-Shock Tacticool for under $100 bucks

The only tacticool features I really like are solar/atomic. These have become a "must have" feature for me.

Lumi Nox.  SEAL watch.  I have a Lumi Nox that I've worn for 4 years.  One battery replacement last year. I traded out the strap to NATO straps.  It does everything I need it to do, and the luminescence is very bright.

I picked one up for $300 BNIB on EE from a guy coming off deployment. I own a Rolex, Omega and Breitling but those watches have been hiding in a drawer for the past three years due to my love of the Marathon. It is rugged, accurate, attractive, and most importantly (to me), non pretentious.
