Basic Rifle Marksmanship Intro
“The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny, because a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized.
The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” -Colonel Jeff Cooper Basic Shooting Positions Right off the bat, this is going to be a very basic. So after you read the following you can go and practice it and wow your friends and colleagues with your amazing jump in Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM). So before you go and drop some serious money to make your new AR-15 as accurate as possible why not first work on making yourself as accurate as possible? Odds are your AR can out shoot you. Your goal will be to out shoot your ammo (depending on ammo used) before looking at your rifle. If you get to the point that you can master the fundamentals where you can out shoot your rifle then you will be in a rare class. Yes, this may look familiar… it's because it is. But while I am leaving it up in the Basics forum I have started my own website/blog and will be breaking down the Positions thread and adding video as well on the website. So if you like this kind of content you can subscribe over at www.AZRifleman.com and the AZRifleman YouTube Channel for the video portions coming soon. Now get out, and shoot and forget the election for a while!!! ETA: Feed back, do the pictures on the website work well for you guys size wise? On my phone they are great, on the computer they seem maybe too small? What do you guys think? |

FYI... you have 2 "prones"..... for 2 completely different shooting styles.. the "DCM" - "off set" prone http://photos.imageevent.com/kraigwy/pentest/websize/Prone%20Position.jpgthis is meant for open sights, no need for any recoil control. #2 Scoped rifle prone this is meant for max recoil control to be used with a optic. the point being for you to be able to spot your own hits and misses.. https://assets.shootingillustrated.com/media/1536582/prone-position.jpg?preset=article Interesting, all my reading and what not place what you call "Off set" as merely "Olympic" as that is the form used in 3 position shooting. I've never heard it called "Off Set" either. |

okay works now, damn that's a lot of work taking the photos and writing that up. Good job my wife carries that same gerber
lol no shit, I bought that at the NOB NEX in '98 iirc, never carried it. I use it mostly for scraping carbon off the tail of my bolt

http://blog.joehuffman.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/UpsideDownRifleShooting.jpg No I get the terminology and your explanation. I've just never heard it referred that way. I'll take that bit and tuck it away to add in the explanation of the positions |

Lol, just goes to show how many names the same positions can have depending on your era or location when learning |
I took this class at Camp Perry. It was a great class
http://www.beingofservicerifle.com/interview-ken-roxburgh/ Ken Roxburgh is certainly no stranger to competitive National Match Highpower. From shooting to coaching and consulting, he has been in this game for a little under 40-years. As Head Coach for Team Remington, “Rox” has coached this team to almost countless victories across the country – all the while offering free “Advanced Highpower” clinics to any students that are willing to listen from coast to coast. His clinics, which emphasize the fundamentals of marksmanship – have become known as the foundation of many accomplished competitors throughout the years. Given enough time, and Rox being present at a match – you’ll hear many of such shooters shout praise to him from a dozen or so firing points away with phrases like “HARD ON THE SIGHTS!”, “THREE IS THE KEY!” or other things you’ll have to take a clinic to truly understand… Other Ken Roxburg vids on youtube Here is the advanced class you can take at Camp Perry Here are the non-advanced marksmanship classes you can take at Camp Perry (Small Arms Firing School) Highly Recommended! |

That would help. 2x as large would be about perfect on a 15" screen. Not too big, but should show enough detail. Quoted:

Make all the pics twice as large. I can go back through in enlarge them. That would help. 2x as large would be about perfect on a 15" screen. Not too big, but should show enough detail. Kind of what was thinking too. I'll adjust them later. Thanks for the feed back
