| Just found out I'm getting laid off 6 months after getting into the union. I'm have my job for 3 more weeks and then I'm screwed! Happy fucking holidays! |

Don't worry. The economy is great, unemployment is low, it's so good in fact, the ranks of people with multiple jobs is higher than ever before. So, look on the bright side. You can always work two or three jobs! Nothing like a few simultaneous $10 an hour jobs to boost the self esteem and help bring the family closer together. |

I thought the point of being in a Union was that you couldn't be fired? I would be demanding my dues back asap he's not getting fired, he's getting laid off. He'll get his job back whenever the union decides to go back to work but he has to be able to live without pay forever how long it takes. |

Why do people think it's the ''unions fault'' OP is getting laid off? Maybe he should be pissed at the company that is paying his wages and no longer needs his labor.
Unless OP is working for the union and getting paid by the union for work on union property, I fail to see why it's a ''union'' thing and not more a ''no work to do'' thing. |

Two shops in the business I work for about 30 miles apart. One went union and the other didn't, they do the same exact thing. I sit in on the negotiations. If they only knew the union shop makes on average about 30% less than the non union shop. It's factored in on top because of all the hassle. They are also first on the block for layoffs and we shift all production to the other shop. But unions are sticking up for them lol. |

You can always work two or three jobs! Yep. There have been countless threads in GD about how members have never had it so good. New jobs with triple the pay, new homes, supermodel wife . . . I don't believe they are the norm. Sorry this happened to you. I hope things turn around soon for us all. |

Why would you be mad at an employer for not having work? Do employers owe people jobs? |

Whatta ya wanna bet no Union bosses are getting laid off?? Union means last hired, first fired when work slows uhhhh not in every union The vast majority work like that due to senority. [if layoffs are in a certain area where all employees have the same skills or skill level.] One can usually ''bump'' to another job as long as they can do it and have the quals. The person that held that job can also ''bump'' until the low man gets the pink slip. |
