The thread regarding Hitler's views of the second amendment got me to thinking of how it would shake out and what would be required for it to work

1. The feds would have to do something "tyrannical"
2. The governor of each or any state would declare an emergency of sorts or he would call a special session of the state legislature to do so.
3. The sheriff's in each country would be authorized and tasked with forming militias. The governor would be responsible for the national guard in each state.
4. This in itself would require that citizens be armed in preparations for such an event to occur.
5. This would mean that no restrictions could be in place regarding firearms ownership. (Seeing the breakdown of this already)
6. This would also mean that individuals would have the ability to defend themselves by any reasonable means from any threat.

Anyway, that how I see it. Right, wrong or indifferent.

Discuss. Thick skin engaged.

First, you'd need an army of people who believe personal liberty is the end goal of government. Meaning, they view government as an institution to protect freedom, not take it.

Next, you'd need a highly self-reliant populous with a strong moral code. (This most likely comes from Judeo-Christian values, but that's not a requirement.)

Then, you'd need a government that fears the people. (See first two points.)

Finally, you'd need a group of people so devoted to the first two ideals they'd be willing to die for them.

Very good points. These are what we are missing I'm afraid. My post presumed that those traits existed at the point of such an event.  I want to hope that they are still there but am afraid they are fading.
