Hello ladys and gents, Just joined and website, And I was looking for a bit of advice!
I was looking into getting my first cc handgun and I'm on a budget. Now I've been doing research and I keep bumping into the debate about the S W Sigma 9m and the glock 9m I know the Sigma is a copy cat of the Glock but the price on the SW is amazing and totally in the budget Do you guys have any other guns you'd suggest for a a good price? Also I've shot .45 and 9m and I'm confident with both. Also the rock island armory 1911 45 looks like a good gun in my budget but I can't seems to find any used or new in stock at my local shops ! THANKS all advice welcome |

What is your budget ? What is the main purpose for this handgun ? How experienced are you with firearms ? What other firearms do you own? All excellent questions. To the OP though, you can find police trade in Glocks for a song. Check out AIMSurplus. You'll have to transfer it to an FFL and do all the proper paperwork as usual. |
|
I strongly suspect the OP is trolling, but on the off chance he isn't, the short answer it to get Glock 19. If that is beyond your budget, buy a police trade-in Glock 22. You should be able to find one around $325 if you look.
ETA: Summit Gunbroker has some for $289. Linky |

CZ P-07 https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/91638/CZ-USA+91086+CZ+P-07+15+1+9mm+3.8%22 Take a look here OP ,the P-07 might just be the best deal in a combat pistol even over the Glock 19.http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_5/37_CZ_Pistols_And_Clones.html |

Glock 19 will do everything you described. Magazines, holsters, and parts are cheap and everywhere. It's a simple design to break down and clean but it can also handle a high amount of neglect and still function.
It's not the "best" in every category but there is a reason it is the benchmark all others are judged by. |
|
OP, if you can go to a range where you can rent guns, spend the money to try a few and see what you like. It sounds like you're already comfortable shooting pistol calibers so you must have some experience and some idea.
For general purpose if you're just going to have one, g19 is the standard answer for a reason. It's good enough for everything. Note that I did not say great or even good at everything. But hey, it's a plastic and metal tool. You're not supposed to have an emotional relationship with it. |

My budget would be $500 Hand gun for home defense and CC (New born in the house) My experience is basic shooting classes I don't own any at the moment. Gently used glock 19. Meets all your needs, within budget, quality gun. After a while with this one, and renting some other handguns and rifles, you will be able to better determine what you like and what you don't. Many avenues to go down in the firearms world. Read...read....read... Always do your research on what you want to buy, and heed the advice "buy once, cry once". This will save you many headaches, and problems down the road. |

I wouldn't say that the Sigma is copy of the Glock. I recommend that you get a Glock 19 as well. I recommend getting a new one for your first gun. If you don't have the cash now, then save a little more or sell something else to fund it. But, the Glock 19 would be your best bet. |

Are you close to a range that will let you rent guns? In that price range look at the glock 17, glock 19, glock 34, S&W M&P, Sig 2022, HK VP9. Are comfortable with a gun with no external safety? That will affect which ones might be an option. Really any of the above are solid choices in your price range, it's just personal preference and you need to go shoot them to find out what you like the most. Stay away from the Sigma. |

Think about how you plan to carry it. Some handguns shoot fantastic, and carry like ass. If you want to carry daily you need to plan a bit for it. http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz55/ma96782/AR15dotcom/Hes%20Right.png Consider: Weight, physical size, caliber and your practice budget. Then, your clothes......know that you may have to change your style of dress to go concealed. Aloha, Mark I'm spoiled, I carry a P3AT in my pocket every day. Doesn't shoot the best, but it carries like a wallet. I love bigger guns, but I wear tighter fitting clothes so coming up with a way to carry without a jacket is impossible. |

I missed the Sigma part. Who the fuck buys Sigmas anymore? Palmetto has VP9s for $520 fairly often. Get that. Quoted:

I'm a Pistol Instructor, but take my advice with a grain of salt. there are other options in life besides a Sigma. I missed the Sigma part. Who the fuck buys Sigmas anymore? Palmetto has VP9s for $520 fairly often. Get that. VP9 is a fine choice. Holsters are harder to find that a Glock, though, and mags are much more expensive. |

About how much would a new or used glock 19 go for? New around $525 +/- $25. A used one should be around $450 depending on age and condition. If money is tight, you can get the .40 S&W chambered G23, which is the same physical size and uses the same holsters, significantly cheaper. Should be around $350 which is a steal. .40 is just out of fashion at the moment, but still very popular with LE. |

G19 is hard to go wrong with, but if you don't get one with night sights (+$80-100 more) then it comes with the plastic sights that most people want to change out to metal sights (which will add to the cost). This is true for all Glocks.
The G26 is also a good option for a CCW gun, and it'll carry/conceal even better than the G19. |
