I haven't tried Rye for about 6 years. Whatever I had then was far too "spicy" for my tastes. I am gonna have to do some testing soon to find one I like.

REBELLION RYE WHISKEY (Limited Availability)

45% ABV / 90 Proof

It was the whiskey produced by farmers in Western Pennsylvania that sparked the Whiskey Rebellion.  So we named our rye whiskey Rebellion Rye to pay tribute this event and the feisty farmers at the heart of it.  We try to source as much rye grain from, who else, a Western Pennsylvania farmer.  The supply is limited, so we buy some rye from outside the local area.  To preserve the freshness of the grain, we mill the grain the same day it is mashed.  The distillation is a two step process.  First, a stripping run is done to separate the alcohols from the fermented beer.  This produces a low quality distillate of low proof.  The second distillation is done through a pot still column to produce a high quality distillate of no more than 160 proof.  The distillate is reduced with Pennsylvania spring water to a traditional barreling proof of 100 proof and aged in new charred American Oak barrels for a period of not less than six months.  The charred oak gives the whiskey its distinct amber color and wonderful flavors and smoothness.  Like its great bourbons cousins Rebellion Rye can be sipped neat, over ice or as a whiskey base for some wonderful American Cocktails - think Manhattan!

It's possible that his remained in the barrel for 2 years longer than yours did, but I'm not an expert.

I never cease to be amazed how much you guys like rye (which is only good for getting in fights and banging ugly chicks) when bourbon comes from your country.

I usually get the 81 proof.  Make sure it's the "Crafted with Conviction" version and not the regular WT rye 81.

Y'all have good taste.  Michters is my favorite, but the only one I can get here is Bulleit.  I do like it though so I guess all hope is not lost.

Michters and Bulliet came from the same distillery anyway.

Smooth Ambler Old Scout barrel proof, Thomas Handy, and George Dickel when I want something watered down.

I have some Rittenhouse and Pikesville but they don't do much for me.  Just taste blah.

I've been wanting to try that but it runs about $70 here and I don't often spend that much on a bottle.

Maybe I'll splurge on of these days.

I really like the E H Taylor small batch Bourbon
