This isnt the first time that glass cookware has spontaneously exploded. The first time was a few years ago, took it out of the oven and put it on a cooling rack. About 30 min later it exploded sending glass everywhere inside a 20 ft circle lucky no one was nearby. The 2nd one exploded inside a small counter top oven, just tossed the whole thing in the trash since the glass on the door also broke.
Today the 3rd one exploded inside the oven, it had been inside for 1 hr with chicken set 350 degrees, started a big fire as well. Its a huge mess of broken glass and baked on grease. Off to the trash bin with the remaining dishes. Old pyrex vs new pyrex they dont make them like Grandmas dishes. And damn it if someone didnt throw out my fucking cast iron pots and skillet. " />

The really odd thing is there were 2 of them inside the oven and only 1 turned into shrapnel. Still got eat 1/2 of that chicken.

Had one explode in my hand, after it touched the stove top. It was a glass top, not cold or hot, just room temp.
Thing went off like a firework. Only got one or two small cuts from shrapnel. Thankfully, there were other people who helped clean up the glass while I stood still, as I was in bare feet
Thing was probably 20 years old. I imagine even the slightest imperfection could grow over 20 years of cooking and lead to that. |

The old good Pyrex was borosilicate, the new cheap exploding shit is soda lime glass, of course sold in the US while europe still gets the far, far better borosilicate. I won't touch the new crap, it is low quality cheap shit. Was going to mention this, Pyrex has been trading on its reputation from the old stuff for decades now. I blew up a big bowl when I accidently allowed a garand bolt to touch the side while parking, just the slightest touch, boom. Made a huge mess and woke up the wife. |

So this is/was a regularly occuring thing. I read that one link and it says one guy was unloading his dish washer and had 1 blow up in his hands and another was in wash water in the sink. Ugh i didnt want to go looking for cookware tomorrow. Want good Pyrex, go garage sale hunting at houses with older people. ALL new Pyrex sold in the US is Soda Lime glass, all will have the same exploding issue. |

IMHO it's actually dangerous and the soda lime type should be banned from sale. You NEVER saw the old stuff explode, break if dropped yes, explode, nope. |

Wife had a Pyrex pan of lasagna in the oven in our camper, She removed it and put it on the cook top to cool and the son of a bitch exploded with an enormous crash. She had hot glass on her hair, clothes, face and all over the damn camper. And I mean all over. That hot fuckin glass was on and behind the couch, in the dinette, tv shelf, and in the bunk beds all the way across the camper.
It was seriously like a 350 degree claymore. |

Is the boron silicate glass not true boron silicate glass anymore? Nope, just cheaper soda lime glass. In 1998 Corning sold it to World Kitchens LLC and while the US gets the cheap ass soda lime glass, Europe still has the more expensive borosilicate glass. The reason it explodes is because it's tempered glass which is unlike the better borosilicate glass. |

Happened to us earlier this year. Pyrex brand dish and my wife heard a distinct crack as soon as she pulled it out of the oven. She put it down on the cooktop and got out of the room. I waited a few minutes so it wouldn't be quite as hot but a dish full of chicken doesn't cool down quickly. I threw heavy a bath towel over the dish from a distance before trying to move it. Dish had split down the middle from end to end. I even got to say "this is why I need a plate carrier" |

I don't understand the logic. Why would they not sell the cheap stuff in Europe to maximize profits there, as well? Are you suggesting Europeans are twice as smart as Americans when it comes to cookware? Europe doesnt put up with crappy cookware or crappy chocolate |

Contains a test to see if your PYREX is borosilicate or soda lime. |

Quoted: I had one explode with a salmon fillet and poaching liquid after it was taken out of the oven and was resting. What a FKN MESS. Had to be 10 + years ago Search it for glass. Brushed it off and rinsed it. Then placed it back in the oven to warm it up in a metal pan |
