I think the device I'm getting is a Samsung s2.  I really don't know much about androids at all, but I'm hoping to use it a little more effectively (for work and play) than an iPad.

Things I'd want to be able to do:

Cisco any connect vpn client

Ssh and rdp for server and network device console control

Ms office file editing and viewing

Sync files with Windows file share

View, edit, and create pdf

Play music (MP3 and lossless like flac)

Play videos

Additional microsd memory and a Bluetooth keyboard should be coming with it.

What apps do I need?  What should I do when I first receive it (apply updates, install apps, what else)?

Is the battery replaceable / can I get and carry a spare?  Will a normal 2a sub charger charge the thing, or so I need something special?

What else should I know?

I have the Tab 2 and it's pretty great.

2 things I have found though. On mine, the rear camera just stopped working one day and will not work even after resets and the other walk through's. I do have the Tab 2 I think and not the Pro

The second is the Tab charger, was crap and I am on my 3rd one. The battery is not removable and Samsung will ass fuck you if you have a problem with it and demand you send it back to be "fixed". Guess what, they also own the "3rd party" repair they want you to send it to, so expect to just buy a new one if it breaks. The repair was 10 less than the cost of a new one.

This was my experience. I do love the Tab though, it does what I wanted it to. Also get a nice protective case, because the "warranty" is voided if it has a scratch or anything on it. At least that is what I was told by the service rep.

I didn't know that they had tablets for anderoids. I've been using the suppositories. A tablet sounds much more comfortable.

The s2 is pretty nice, I like mine.  Pretty solid and thin.

Any kind of serious office work is going to suck on a tablet. I have tried. It is no substitute for a laptop.

That said, for just surfing the internet, checking email, watching Netflix and things of that sort, a tablet is a lot more fun than a traditional computer.

i have both an android samsung gtab and an ipad air2. Both are solid tablets. i will say the ipad blows it out of the water for almost everything. That said for the application you want such as rdp and console networking your going to end up buying apps vs several free ones on android. That said i have had much better success using the ipads for that stuff. either will do the job in general.

i am by no means and apple snob. the only reason i own them is work provided the mac pro and ipad. i have a serious love/hate relation ship with the macpro and it's the loaded top end model.

Android phone user here, on the tablet side I'm using ipads these days. Much better than any of the Android tablets I've used and owned.
