I pretty much have to wear earplugs when motorcycle riding to keep from going deaf from wind noise.
I hate wearing them. I don't like putting them in my ears.
Is there an alternate product that will muffle wind noise that doesn't fit in your ear, and is small enough to fit under a helmet.
Even better would be something that attaches to the helmet, so its not a separate item to take on/off.

Try the Surefire Sonic Defenders. There's a whole range of them. I like the EP7 the best.

You ride with a full face helmet? What brand? Higher end helmets are good at reducing wind noise.

My Dad always shoved .357 or .44 rounds in his ears for "protection"

Open face.
Don't like the enclosed feeling of a full face.

Hoping to find something like a set of low profile muffs that will fit inside the helmet ear pockets.

Comtac 2s. Fit under the helmet/can attach to them and are electric

You could go electric scooter and not worry about any wind noise.

Do you have a windshield?  Otherwise, I recommend custom earbuds.

They have earplugs that you custom mold and take up the whole "bowl" of your ear. Might be more comfortable for you.

Custom earplug kit.  You can find any number of manufacturers, and since this isn't an industrial environment or firearm-related, the noise reduction doesn't matter.

They fit flush when fitted correctly.  Also is it the best idea to operate a motor vehicle with blocked ears?  Is a helmet which doesn't allow wind noise totally out of the realm of possibility?

Mac's Pillow Soft silicone earplugs are the ones you want, they really cut the low frequency wind noise.
I have been using them for about 8 years.

They don't go in your ear, they cover the opening.

Get em at Walmart

Yes, it is best. you cannot hear shit without earplugs. I wear a full face, my bike has no wind protection. On the freeway at 80 mph, I cannot even hear my own horn honk. Wind noise drowns out everything.

Windscreen?

I wear a full face, earplugs and keep my Bluetooth helmet blasting sweet hair metal.

Don't be a hater.

Oh, 3M foam ear plugs are SUPER comfortable.

I use Hearos Rock 'n Roll ear plugs.

Cuts the sound but does not overly attenuate.

Still plugs but there aren't any more comfortable than these for prolonged use.
