Am I the only one who thinks the term "African Americans" just doesn't seem proper. What happened to the term"Negro"? Is it now a bad word to use? I guess I'm just a little old fashioned. If we need to differentiate, wouldn't, Black American or White American be more accurate? I'm not called a Europeen American.

African American just means black now. Even if they're from Jamaica or Haiti or other places.

You can't go wrong with Mister Negro. It's polite and anthropologically correct.

It should be one or the other, Africans or Americans.

"Anything American" denotes a divided allegiance.

I was born an American to fully native born American citizens.  I am an American.  Yes I still appreciate my German and Scotch/Welsh heritage.  But I am an American.  I am not someone with divided alliances.

Go to Africa and tell them you're African American.

Prepare for an earful and major insults.

African-American is one of the stupidest terms I've ever seen in this life, especially when someone tries to use it to segregate themselves socially from the rest of us.

How about just "American"?

Why let the government or some private hate groups pigeonhole you?

My last name is Roberts and our family is also from Wales.  My pops tracked us back to the 1500's I believe...  he's been over there mulitple times foraging through old churches and grave sites.

Holy hell to LRRPF52's post.  If you have ever known "real" Africans or been there, you will know that "real" Africans can NOT stand Americans with black skin who claim to be African.  Hate might be a good word too.

It's funny when the moron reporters call blacks in other countries African Americans.

8/29/2016 5:11:47 PM EDT
[#44]
The vast majority of immigration into this country came long after the importation of slaves had ended.

The ancestors of most black Americans were born in America generations before the ancestors of most other white, "hispanic", asian, etc. Americans.

Statistically speaking, black Americans are more American than most other ethnic groups.  The notable exception are American Indians.  Don't get me started on the goofy term; "Native Americans".

Go figure.

Most like to be called by their name.  "You can call me Joe".

I've asked plenty of black dudes and dudettes what is your preferred term for your ethnicity.  "I'm black".

The term African American is much like the term Assault Rifle, bullshit.

They made it up to differentiate one group of people from another, just like the firearms. It insinuates a lack of diversity and integration within our society. I believe that the people that use this term, while thinking they are PC, are just oblivious to the fact that in order to create a homogeneous society that everyone has to integrate into that society in order to belong. That particular term does nothing to help that. The only way we as a society will ever create something meaningful is to learn how to respect the fellow members of our society and accept the fact that we are one. Any group that promotes individual feelz at the expense of another group ruins that chance of happening. Lets face it, there are certain people that don't want to integrate into our society, yet they want to reap the benefits our our society. Those people need to either integrate into the current society, go off to another society, or form their own with their own backing. Quit trying to take down America!

and FBHO as well as FHRC
