Amazon is planning a pilot program in which a select group of part-time workers will only need to log 30 hours a week, The Washington Post reports. Instead of the normal 40-hour week (or, more recently, the 50, 60, or 70-hour week), the world's second-largest retailer will let roughly a dozen "part-time" employees cut back to just 30 hours at 75% the typical salary, but still retain all their benefits. |

The devil is the details: -It's only a dozen -They are already part time - I'm sure they have and will retain part time benefits - Do the math, they get 75% less pay for 75% less work How is revolutionary? Less money for less pay. Part time people get part time benefits....

I somehow doubt the pay and bennies stay the same. Why doubt when you can know? http://i.imgur.com/s62CuS3.png I think what he meant was that there's probably a catch. Maybe benefits are kept but premiums go up or such. |

They are getting 75% salary and will work 75% of the hours. Are they getting the same benefits as a typical 40+ hour employee? Full medical and dental and 401K match? Maybe...of course they'll have smaller checks so percent wise is going to be up, but that's fair. They should get 75% of vacation, sick,PTO, and get 75% pay (6 hours) for holiday. However I expect that what is really going to happen is they'll be missing out on some of the benefits of true full-timers. Most likely they'll stop getting paid vacations and holiday pay. |

Cool. Those lazy fucks should try my 110 hour work week. People say stuff like that here like they're proud of it or something. No, I hate it. But I like the money. Lets me see the old man and mom every 2-3 weeks and every fucking gun I want. |

http://www.breitbart.com/immigration/2016/08/26/washington-post-jeff-bezos-scab-workers-replace-americans/ Jeff Bezos’ Editorial Board at the Washington Post is complaining that there aren’t enough Americans who want to work low-end jobs, so the government needs to import more foreign replacements |

Quoted: Your benefits come out of your pay before taxes. So those benefits are still full price. They just have a 3/4 sized pie to cut out the same sized slice.. Fuck that noise. However I expect that what is really going to happen is they'll be missing out on some of the benefits of true full-timers. Most likely they'll stop getting paid vacations and holiday pay. The 401k match isn't good. We don't have many holidays to begin with. The rest of our benefits aren't really anything special so it's pretty easy to keep that at 100%. We spend a lot of money to recruit and interviews eat up a lot of dev time so anything to retain people that want to work less could be a huge win. When you have SDE Is making >120k 'total comp' (salary + rsus/bonus) out of college and a massive bleed of SDE 2s, then it makes sense to try something to keep them in company. The strangest part of this is the 30 hours thing. A *lot* of devs don't just work 40 hour weeks. That's just not really how salaried work + launching new products works. So it's not 75% and 75%, for a lot of people it will be 75% pay for 30-50% of the work. |
