| What do you guys use for insurance? Anyone use the one from the NRA? My homeowners insurance just went up $400/yr out of nowhere, so I am shopping for a new provider. Most seem to only cover about $2000 unless they are scheduled items and then some (All state) want them appraised or receipts. I'm not doing that. I would rather find a company that I can just add a rider or use the NRA one if it's decent. |

Eastern Insurance
The coverage is very broad and far less expensive than riders available under most Homeowners policies. I think it's superior to the NRA offering as well. |

Quoted:
This. (Same as Eastern Insurance, posted above). Minimum coverage is $30k, and was cheaper than the $20k policy I had with Collectibles Insurance. Quoted:

I called USAA and asked about it one time but they wanted me to submit a list with serial numbers of everything. Obviously, that was a no-go. Quoted:

USAA I called USAA and asked about it one time but they wanted me to submit a list with serial numbers of everything. Obviously, that was a no-go. I called USAA a few weeks and they wanted the same. That was also a no-go for me. Plus their premium was over $300/yr. I'll try calling eastern and collectibles tomorrow. |

My Traveler's has a base amount for firearms included, but I have extra coverage for all I have that exceeds that value. Price is pretty good.
ETA: No serial numbers required, I just have to have proof that I owned the gun when it was stolen (police report with ser#). |

So I called both collectibles and eastern today. Here is a quick list of what some differences I observed -
Eastern Minimums - $30,000 coverage policy Premium - $125/yr Deductible - $100 No scheduling for items under $5k Covers everything except ammo %5 discount for NRA members ETA: eastern expects your homeowners policy to cover the safe Collectibles Minimums - $70/yr premium Premium for $20,000 - $155 Premium for $30,000 - $218 Deductible - none, minimum claim of $50 No scheduling for items under $5k Covers everything including ammo (eta) and the safe. No discounts for NRA membership mentioned. Eastern seems to come in substantially lower than Collectibles, but I don't always pick the the lower bidder. For me customer service means more than cost. Has anyone ever had to make a claim, with with either? ETA: for the ammo I'm guessing my renters policy would cover that. They cover up to $3000 of "valuable" items. |
