When will be able to text msg Emergency services at 911? Is there anyplace where you already can?

Seems like there would be certain situations where silently sending a text would have benefit.

Its been in the works for years. In some counties in some states its supported, in others it isn't.

FCC link w/ list of specific counties that support it supposedly.

I believe this is part of enhanced 911.  No bullshit one of our units went to a blind and deaf ladies house the other day because she pressed her call button.  The medic was intructed to carry her to her recliner in front of a 50 inch screen tv and hit a button on the side of it.  Next thing he knows a lady appears and starts sign language on it. Once theyvwere done she was able to tell him that the patient was wet and needed to be changed.

If you have someone that needs to be able to call 911 but cant it would be best to get with the 911 disptcher and set something up.  Or get a 3rd party call button and they can leave notes on key location, door codes and special needs of the person inside and who to call.  We get all kinds of notes about persons with Autism, deaf, blind , large dogs names inside the house and anything you could imagine
