| I had a Sirius radio subscription years ago but only ever used it for sports talk and eventually quit using it and let it expire. New vehicle has a free trial and I noticed some stations have no low end whatsoever. It's as if someone dropped all the eq below the midrange. Even a couple of the hip hop stations are like this which seems especially odd. Is this a common thing or is there something wrong with my service? |

Never noticed it on their "in house" music stations.
For sure on the retransmitted radio stations, traffic reports and the talk and sports radio. They compress the shit out of their signal on those. Maybe it is just how I like to handle media, but I like SiriusXM. While I have a pretty large music collection and do use Pandora and other streaming apps on occasion, I like that XM requires no input from me. I start my truck, there it is. No connecting my phone, syncing, choosing tracks, fiddling with playlists etc. |

Sirius and XM use different satellite types, geosynchronous for XM and asynchronous for Sirius, but both also use ground based repeaters for coverage. Both are also limited to 12.5Mhz of transmit bandwidth. When both first launched, the sound quality was very good, but as they have added channels, the sound quality has degraded. Quoted:

Does that explain something like no low end on a select few channels? Other than that the sound quality is decent and consistent from channel to channel |

I'm annoyed that I can't get "Turbo" station on my vehicle satellite tuners, but I can listen all day long on the internet version. You should be able to, unless Turbo is only available on select tuners. Turbo is one of the presets in my truck. ETA: Channel 314 |

Yes, SXM sound quality sucks. I love it for the two weeks (Memorial Day) in the spring and two weeks in the fall (Labor Day) they do their free promos. Truck has no A/C, glasspack true duals and mud tires... sound quality is hearing the radio above the chaos at highway speed... we don't get too nit-picky. Normal dd does just fine on a thumbdrive or FM. HU is satellite ready but didn't come with the antennae or receiver and I am too cheap to pay for it anyway. |

| Sound quality was fine when it first came out. I was an early XM adopter, back when their commercial showed a bunch of musical instruments dropping out of the sky. In the years since, they have squeezed in a whole bunch of new talk channels by lowering the data or bit rate for the existing channels. |

That's because they have streaming only channels. Turbo is one of them. Quoted:

Question that kind of relates to this thread...
I was considering buying a satellite radio for my car. When looking at pricing for on their website, I was asked if I had a "Sirius radio" or an "XM radio"... The prices are the same, but I'm assuming the technology in the radios are different. I'll be purchasing a brand new radio, so would I choose Sirius, or XM? |

I get it in my Honda Pilot. My wife's new Honda Odyssey, same trim level, same model year, can't get the channels in the 300s. |
