the DNC platform has aparagraph devoted to making DC a state off page 30 of 55 Securing Statehood for Washington, D.C. Restoring our democracy also means finally passing statehood for the District of Columbia , so that the American citizens who reside in the nation’s capital have full and equal congressional rights as well as the right to have the laws a nd budget of their local government respected without Congressional interference . it is obvious this is a simpleton's play for 2 permanent DEM senators- DC already has a congress critter. _____________________________________________________________________________________ It fails on several historic fronts but before we go there let me say the 51st star would make the flag look stupid 1.the great compromise which created a senate & a congress was the first designed to stabilize & balance power in a 2 party system 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compromise_of_1850 was designed to try and preserve this balance and allow self determination in the territory's as the slave/and free states prepped for war it failed & the civil war occurred. since then the states have been allowed in pairs one expected to be GOP the other whatever the democrats called themselves at that times. examples include SD. ND. NM. AZ. AK,HI among a few others but since the end of southern reconstruction we have managed to keep a balance THIS COUNTRY WILL HAVE NO CHOICE TO GO TO WAR WITH ITSELF IF DC IS MADE A STATE WITHOUT A SECOND GOP AFFILIATED STATE ADDED.to balance the power in the senate . but where can we get one? Puerto Rico may want to be brought in as well ? right  now we need 2 GOP voting states to keep balance
