I already have an AICS AX and looking to build another precision rifle, I need to lower my price point and was considering either the XLR Evolution Chassis or the McMillan A5.

Are there any other nice tactical looking stocks out there?

I'm a big fan of the KRG stuff, either the X-Ray or the Whiskey3 with the X-Ray fore end (for weight savings.)

Here's my .260 in a Whiskey3/X-Ray combo:

Had a KRG. Didn't care for it all that much. Now I have an MDT H3 and like it quite a bit.

I wouldn't worry how it looks.  I'd worry how it feels.  There are a lot of different options out there.  It depends on how you shoot it too.  If you're doing all bench or prone it doesn't matter as much .

Just ordered a KRG for my Tikka. Sent a few rounds through a friends X-ray and loved it enough to drop the coin that same day for my own.

To me, those aren't  "chassis" systems. Those are companies that build rifle stocks though the line is ever more blurred......

Actually, it looks like the default fore end on the 5th Gen W3 (the current one) is plastic. Mine's a Gen4 stock and it came with the aluminum fore end. When I ordered mine I just added the X-Ray piece to my order and then swapped it myself since it's only a few screws to do so. IIRC the weight difference was 13 ounces.

EDIT: It looks like with the Gen5 W3 chassis they swapped a few of the metal parts for plastic and lowered the price a little bit.

That's why I didn't care for mine. It just felt cheap. I liked the overall feel of it- the pistol grip, the buttstock even the contour OF the foreend..... but that plastic felt like shit.....

Some do, some don't. Most offer some features a standard stock does not without significant expense in customizing----AICS mag usage, comb adjustment, metal to metal bedding etc....

You had a Gen5? Honestly, the Gen5 looks like a significant downgrade from the Gen4 and earlier, it's like they're just trying to squeeze more profit out of the thing. If I were in the market for another W3 right now I'd look for a used Gen4.

Damn, that sucks. I don't know what used Gen4s go for, but they sure are nice. The Gen3 is great too, the only thing they changed from 3 to 4 that I really think matters is moving the lower spar leg forward, my dad has a Gen3 and sometimes it hits my support hand when shooting. Other than that a Gen3 or 4 bought used would cost less than a new Gen5 and would be better choices.

If I had known what they were going to get, yea, I wouldn't have done it. But they ordered it in and I didn't want to "stick them" with a stock they had ordered for me at cost.....So I shot it for awhile and traded it off. Fortunately, I paired it with a rifle I didn't have much money in so I didn't take an ass reaming loss on it.....

I heard stories about how the guy was hard to deal with. I ordered one anyways. Weeks after the promised delivery date, unreturned emails and calls, excuses, and whatnot it finally arrived. It was actually a nice setup and I shot it for a couple of years before selling it to someone who didn't want to go through the misery of trying to order his own from the RS guy.

Yep, I plan to make them look exactly the same too.

I was planning on building them in matching AIAX Pale Brown chassis, but that's too much cash. I could get 2 decent stocks for the $1500 I'd spend on a single AIAX system.
